A Simple Matter Of Murder!

Location: North Whitechapel

This is the mystery of the factory worker’s death. You meet a young boy, Artie, and an author, Henry Raymond (1). Doyle is fascinated by the crimes Raymond writes about. And Henry Raymond escorts his little fan to many of the crime scenes.

Objective: Follow Raymond and Artie

Follow your two guides to Mr. Freems (2), only a few yards away in the factory compound.

Objective: Speak to Mr. Freems

You have only two choices to talk about: Workers and Body. Talk about both.

Objective: Inspect Wilkin’s body

Investigation Area: Warehouse

Clues: 3

Mr. Wilkins’ Body: Head to the left of Freems and find the factory worker’s body (3) on the ground (it glows yellow in Eagle Vision). Stand over the body and inspect it. He has a deep stab wound to the chest and a bandana obscures the victim’s face.

Warehouse - Letter: This is located on the corner of the wall to Dooley’s left, behind the barrel stack. The letter (4) states that workman, Mr. Coulton beats child laborers.

Warehouse - Knife: This is located on the ground to Buck’s left, the small knife (5) has the initial “D” crudely scratched in the handle possibly linking the knife to Dooley.

Suspects: 3

Dooley: Speak to Dooley (6) after you find the three clues. This is the little boy the evidence points to. He is Buck’s brother and a child laborer. Talk to him about Buck and the Body. He tells you he grabbed a fallen knife in self-defense before he was knocked out and then woke up to see the crime scene.

Buck: Speak to Buck (7), Dooley’s brother, after you find the three clues. Talk to him about Dooley, the Body, and the Knife. He confirms the knife is Dooley’s and that he saved him from being beat up by a worker. He also arrived on the scene when Wilkins was already dead and Dooley was holding the knife.

Mr. Freems: Mr. Freems is the first suspect and you spoke to him to start this investigation. If there are no red exclamation icons near any suspect’s head and all clues have been found, you must then make an accusation.

Based on the knife and Buck’s testimony, accuse Dooley to continue.

This false accusation opens a larger investigation zone.

Warehouse - Large Footprint: With Eagle Vision you can now spot labels around Wilkins’ body. Investigate a large footprint (9) in front of Buck near the victim’s head.

Warehouse – Medium Footprint: Investigate a medium footprint (8) about a yard away from the victim’s foot. Follow the footprints leading away into the Coal-Yard.

Investigation Area: Coal-Yard

Suspects: 1

Taylor: Follow the footprints to Taylor (10), a worker in the coal-yard. Talk to him about the Footprints and Bandana. He said he and Wilkins heard screaming and only Wilkins went to investigate. He also says only men that work in the brewery wear bandanas. This leads you to determine the bandana was placed on the body.

Investigation Area: Brewery Entrance

Brewery - Cigarettes: Head to the brewery and find the cigarette (11) on the large porch. These are Joy’s cigarette brand.

Brewery – Large Footprint: Next to the cigarette butts is a large footprint (12) like the one near the body.

Suspects: 1

Morris: Morris (13) is standing at the brewery entrance. Talk to him about the Bandana and Cigarette.

Make sure you have also talked to Mr. Freems(2) about the Bandana and to Taylor again (10) about cigarettes. This unlocks a new investigation zone, the Loading Area (14).

Loading Area – Cigarettes: Head north to the Loading Area to find the cigarette butts (13) on the ground not far from a new suspect.

Accuse:

Coulton: (15) is standing facing the cigarette clue in the Loading Area. Talk to him about the Bandana and Cigarette. After talking to him it’s obvious this is the guy who did it. Accuse him to have the cops come haul him off, Artie congratulate you, and to complete the mystery and the memory. At the end you receive a very detailed overview of the events that occurred up to the murder that solidifies your case.

Motive

The dead worker, one John Wilkins, heard screams and ran to offer assistance. Once there he found the boy unconscious and another workman, Tom Coulton, standing unharmed. But Coulton, long angry with Wilkins, thought fast and stabbed the man with the boy’s knife. He then put his own bandana over Wilkins’ face! Quick thinking, however, did not win out.
