Meet Artie and Henry Raymond (1) outside The White Hare in southwest Whitechapel. This is the case of the missing Detective Murphy.

Objective: Talk to Frederick Abberline

Investigation Area: Fleet Street

Suspect: 1

Frederick Abberline: Find Abberline (2) at the gated entrance to Fleet Street one block to the east of where you talked to Doyle to pick up this assignment. Talk to him about Det. Murphy. He says Murphy went missing after investigating this area for other missing people. Ask him about Missing People.

Check your map, there are three other areas nearby that you can investigate: Flower Shop, Bakery, and Leather Shop.

Objective: Continue your investigation

Investigation Area: Flower Shop

Clues: 3

Flower Shop – Leather Bag: Pass through the open gates behind Abberline and head northeast in the courtyard to reach the flower shop. Here you can find the leather bag (3) next to a cart. There’s a fading green image on the back of this leather bag, it appears to be a cross of some sort.

Flower Shop – Woman’s Jacket: This jacket is just a few feet away, up a small set of stairs (4) near stacks of barrels. It is made of soft brushed leather and decorated with diamond-shaped holes.

Flower Shop – Manure: Just south of the jacket you can find this sack of manure near a stack of crates (5) around the middle of the courtyard. This is plant fertilizer but shows small bits of bone mixed in. One appears to be a human knuckle.

Suspect: 1

Joanna: Speak to the lady near the sack of manure. The assistant florist, Joanna (6) has plenty to say when you ask her about Detective Murphy and Missing People. She saw Murphy going into the barbershop on her way to work.

Stephen Bean: The florist, Stephen Bean (7) is located near the sidewalk to the east. Talk to him about Det. Murphy, Missing People, and Manure. He says George delivers the amazing manure fertilizer. This opens a new topic: George. He says he’s a sweet boy that gives his assistant gifts, including a handbag.

Talk to Joanna about George after Stephen Bean mentions his name during interrogations. Ask Joanna about George. She calls him her sweetheart and believes he’s going to propose marriage to her as soon as today.

Objective: Continue your investigation

Investigation Area: Bakery

Clues: 2

Bakery – Bills: Head north on the same block and find the bills (8) on the ground near a table full of baked goods. The bills are paid. There are several from George for meat delivery. This ties George to multiple types of deliveries (meat, fertilizer and handbags). Mrs. Moffat pays promptly and gets a good deal from George.

Bakery – Crate of Meat: Walk past the suspect and find this crate (9) near the building and the playing boys. There’s no label. The meat smells a little odd.

Suspect: 1

Mrs. Moffat: Speak to the lady (10) near the table of baked goods. She is the baker of meat pies and those were her bills you found. Talk to her about Det. Murphy, Missing People, and Meat. She says George delivers the meat for the pies she makes. He gets his meat from the butcher (this unlocks the butcher shop for investigation). She also says the detective bought a meat pie and then went to the barber. This makes two people connecting the Detective to the barber.

Objective: Continue your investigation

Investigation Area: Butcher

Suspect: 1

John Tines: Find the butcher (11) to the west of Mrs. Moffat’s bakery in the same shopping center and talk to him about Det. Murphy, Meat, and George. He says he only sells quality meat but someone is selling more cheaply because his sales have dropped. This coincides with the odd smelling meat found at the bakery. Mrs. Moffat thinks she’s getting quality meat from George, but she is not. John Tines doesn’t know George, which means he’s not delivering his meat.

Objective: Continue your investigation

Investigation Area: Leather Shop

Clues: 2

Leather Shop – Leatherworking Tools: Go to the Leather Shop a block northeast from the other shops. Find the two clues on the second floor. The leatherworking tools (12) reveal awls, which would be used to punch distinctively shaped holes.

Leather Shop – Leather Scrap: On the second floor of the leather shop is a leather scrap (13) that has a diamond shaped hole in it. This connects the Leather Shop to the Leather Jacket found at the Flower Shop.

Suspect: 1

Tobias Jeffers: Speak to the leatherworker on the first floor. Tobias (14) talks about Det. Murphy, Missing People, and George. He has very little love for George and defensively says he has very little to do with him except George buys his tanning leather. He also said the detective was in asking questions and that he answered them to his satisfaction.

Objective: Continue your investigation

Investigation Area: Barber Shop

Clues: 2

Barber Shop – Razors: Find the razors (15) on the shelf in the corner of the back porch of this open barber shop.

Barber Shop – Blood: Find the blood (16) on the ground near the stairs, not far from where you found the razors. Someone stepped in the blood, leaving a trail. Follow it after speaking to the Barber.

Suspect: 1

Feeney Sodd: Speak to the barber, Sweeney Todd…we mean Feeney Sodd (17), standing in the open barber shop. Talk to him about Det. Murphy, Missing People, Blood, and George. He noticed the detective had a green Celtic cross tattooed on his neck when he gave him a haircut. He also cut George’s hair and George told him he’s saved enough money to ask Joanna to marry him. He is also the first to admit knowing some of the missing people.

Follow the blood trail from the barber shop to George’s house.

Objective: Continue your investigation

Investigation Area: George’s House

Clues: 3

George’s House – Ledger: Find the ledger (18) on a desk by a window on the second floor of George’s house. It’s a list of pick-ups and deliveries. Pick-ups are mysterious. Drop offs are: Meat to bakery, Manure to florist, Leather to Tobias and to leather-worker. Totals show good business but the supplier is getting most of the money. You can come to the conclusion that something is up with the cheap meat, the manure has body parts in it, and the leather comes from a man who gets defensive when the name “George” is mentioned.

George’s House – Diary: Find the diary (19) on the third floor of George’s house. You have seen George’s dead body on the way to reaching this book. It says George has become increasingly suspicious concerning his deliveries. He had written to the detective about his suspicions regarding the true source of the products he delivers.

George’s House – George’s Body: Find George (20) lying dead on the third floor of his house. His chest has a diamond-shaped puncture wound. The diamond-shaped cutter connects the scene to the leather shop.

Investigation Area: Barrel Depot

Accuse:

Tobias Jeffers: Speak to Jeffers (14), the leather shop owner. Accuse him of the murders to complete the mystery and the memory. The story of why he did it will interest you but won’t surprise this super sleuth, right?

Motive

Even a detective can run adrift when a nefarious business is afoot! Was Detective Murphy getting too close to a secret source of “raw goods”? A leatherworker was in the habit of doing away with local folk, flaying them, and then chopping them up! He had the skin tanned for leather, the bones ground up to sell as manure, and the bloody flesh sold to supply pie-shops with cheap meat, all delivered by the unwitting carter, George. Thus did the fiend take macabre pleasure in seeing his victims happily consumed by the citizens of Fleet Street!
