Our Mutual Friend

Location: Prince Albert Restaurant, Westminster

Charles Dickens Memories become available when you enter London in Sequence 3. Our Mutual Friend is available after you complete Darwin’s The Berlin Specimen and only if you have pre-ordered the game. You must also complete Darwin’s Orchid. Our Mutual Friend is the second of the pre-order missions to unlock.

Follow the blue “C” icon to meet Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin inside the Prince Albert Restaurant in Westminster (1). A friend of Dickens’ is arriving from South Africa and asks you to go and meet him at the train station. The young man is filthy rich, but he’s never been to London. He’s come to inherit his father’s fortune and is to be married to a girl he’s never met. The young man is worried that the girl will only love him for his money and asks Jacob to pas him off for dead in order to try and seduce her on his own merits.

Objective: Locate John Hammon

Exit the restaurant (1) and hijack a carriage to get to the train station (2) some 124 meters away. You can find Hammon in the passenger loading area on the north side of the interior tracks. Use Eagle Vision to find him quickly.

Objective: Speak to John Hammon

Tell John that Dickens sent you to pick him up. He shares his story as you walk out of the train station.

Objective: Defend John Hammon

Walk down the nearby stairs to the southwest to find a parked carriage…and a gang of Blighters. Defeat the four gang members to keep Hammon safe. Use a smoke bomb to even the odds.

Objective: Pick up body

John places his identification on one of the dead bodies. His plan is to fool the future bride that John Hammon is dead to see if she will like him as a nobody. Pick up the body with the prompt over it and carry it to the carriage.

Objective: Throw the body in the River Thames

If you used smoke during the battle then it is likely the carriage is a few yards away; smoke scares horses. Hide the body in the carriage, get in the driver’s seat and allow Hammon to ride along.

Follow the route marker to the halfway point across the bridge to the east (3). Exit the carriage, walk up to the carriage door and press the “Carry” button to open the door and lift the dead body.

Carry the body to the edge of the bridge and throw the body over the side and into The Thames.

Objective: Reach Bella

Re-enter your carriage, allow Hammon to enter and follow the route marker to Bella (4) across the bridge and to the north.

Stop in the marker between houses and exit the carriage. Bella is near.

Follow Hammon down the nearby stairs and find Bella on the west side of the riverfront property (5). John introduces himself as a different John and breaks the news to her about Mr. Hammon. John tells you that he thinks he loves Bella now that he’s met her.
