Key Items are special items, often required for story advancement. There are also keys for unlocking doors, and some of these items can be turned in to NPCs. The Tomes and Scrolls are used to unlock additional spells from Orbeck, Karla, Cornyx, and Irina, while the Ashes can be turned in to the Shrine Handmaid to unlock new items to purchase. Coals should be delivered to the Blacksmith, granting new Infusions for your weapons. Finally you may notice that some of the Ashes are NPC ashes... the only way to acquire these is by being especially dastardly and killing the NPC in question!
