Anri and Horace

Anri is a very important NPC that you meet as you start working your way through the Road of Sacrifices. This NPC is going to be a man if you’re playing a female character, or a woman if you’re playing a male.

Anri is a good person who is traveling with Horace, a quiet Knight. Anri seems like an honorable Unkinkled. Talk to Anri and Horace when you meet them. Horace gives you the Blue Sentinels Covenant item, and Anri will move on and be found elsewhere in the future. Anri’s chain of events is incredibly elaborate, so bear with us while we explain how to follow them.

If you are aiming for the Hollow Lord ending, look up Yuria in this chapter so that you make sure that she is summoned in your playthrough. You can’t complete the Hollow Lord story without Yuria.

Anri’s Story

  • Halfway Fortress Bonfire: Talk to Anri several times
  • After Killing Deacons of the Deep: Return after beating the Deacons and search around the shrine. You find Anri there, to the left of the thrones. Talk to Anri a couple of times to advance the quest. This is not required.
  • Catacombs of Carthus, Upper Level: Meet Anri not too far from the front of the Catacombs. From the entrance bridge, look for a staircase below and to your right. The hallway you want is on the other side of those stairs is has a visible entrance from where you are. Talk to Anri and say nothing when asked if you’ve seen Horace. Exhaust this dialogue.
  • Catacombs of Carthus, Second Level: Anri is on a side ledge, close to the collapsing bridge that divides the area between the upper Catacombs and the lower area of Smouldering Lake. Anri is still looking for Horace. You can’t say anything about Horace at first. He is directly underneath that position, though the fall would be fatal. You have to go down to the Smouldering Lake and find him down a side tunnel, off of the main cavern. When you return, after seeing him, you have the option to tell Anri.
  • To keep Anri alive, don’t say anything. Or, travel down there and kill Horace the Hushed before speaking with Anri about it. Horace is in a distant side chamber, past a Crystal Lizard. It’s a somewhat tough fight.
  • Regardless of what you choose to do, Anri gives you the Ring of the Evil Eye if you mention where you saw Horace. This is a very nice item that helps with keep your health high after battles (though you get it during the next step if you don’t tell Anri anything).
  • Horace drops the Llewellyn Shield if you kill him.
  • If you do not kill Horace, but tell Anri of his whereabouts, Anri perishes in the lake at his chamber, dropping his blade there.
  • Irithyll: Go to the Church of Yorshka Bonfire and look for Anri on the right side of the room. Talk Anri and get the Ring of the Evil Eye now. Complete the rest of the region, and summon Anri to help fight Pontiff Sulyvahn.
  • Return to the Firelink Shrine and talk to Yuria several times. She’ll let you know that the marriage ceremony is ready.
  • Find the tower at the end of Irithyll (just a few steps away from Anor Londo). A secret wall disappears if you arrive here for the marriage ceremony. Go down that side hallway and talk to a Pilgrim. She gives you the Sword of Avowal. Keep going down the hall and use the sword for a ritual inside the next room. This grants the final three Dark Sigils needed to complete the Hollow Lord ending. However… if you do not wish to become such a Lord, there is another way.
  • Before you defeat Pontiff Sulyvahn, there is a chance to save Anri, at least for the moment. When you meet Anri in the Church of Yorshka, hidden in the room are a group of statues. One of those statues is the Pilgrim of Londor, spying on the intended bride (or groom). Attack and kill the Pilgrim here and now to stop the ceremony! If you fail to kill the Pilgrim here, even if you have not encountered (or have angered) Yuria, Anri will still end up dead in the ceremony chamber, someone in some other world has wed Anri.
  • Killing the Pilgrim allows you to use Anri as a White Phantom against Sulyvahn as usual, but later, when you go to face Aldrich in Anor Londo, Anri places a summoning sign outside the door. Use the sign and you can join Anri to fight his/her version of Aldrich.
  • If you do so and successfully aid him/her in defeating Aldrich, Anri leaves the blade with Ludleth for you, and departs.
  • Where Anri departs to depends on if you told Anri of Horace’s death. If you did, Anri travels to the grave site in the Smouldering Lake. If not, Anri travels to the graves in the Cathedral of the Deep near the entrance.
  • Unfortunately, either way, Anri finishes this long journey maddened, and attacks you on sight. Anri’s death anywhere along this chain results in the Shrine Handmaid selling the Elite Knight armor set, while Horace leaves the Executioner’s Armor.
