Dark Souls III Guide (Steam) › Equipment › Melee Weapons

Axes

Sturdy Strength based weapons with frequent access to the damage boosting Warcry skill, Axes are straightforward weapons with an easy to use move set and a solid mix of damage and speed.

Compared to Straight Swords, they lean a little more towards Str and a little more towards power over speed, but they don’t totally give up the ability to stick and move, unlike slower, heavier versions.

Axes are another good candidate for an all-purpose weapon, experiment with one early in the game and see if you prefer an axe and shield mix over a sword and shield.
