Shrine Handmaid

The Shrine Handmaid will always be at the Firelink Shrine. She serves as a major merchant for the area throughout all of your playthroughs. You can’t kill her, at least, not for long. Attacking her gets you very little. In fact, she’ll raise her prices by 20% when she returns, so you’re really hurting yourself no matter how you look at it.

As with the Smith, you can restore the Handmaid’s prices by visiting the altar to Velka (in the Undead Settlement). Pay your Souls for absolution and the Shrine Handmaid will return to her regular prices.

The Shrine Handmaid acquires new inventory by providing her with Ashes. She also sells new equipment after you defeat certain bosses and enemies, and complete various NPC questlines (or kill them!).

This table covers all items she normally sells, plus items for giving her Ashes. If you spot an armor set in the Equipment chapter with its location as the Shrine Handmaid, you need to kill the NPC or boss associated with that set to unlock it.

There is a second Shrine Handmaid hidden in the game, located in the Untended Graves, she sells a few unique items.

Placing all of the Lord’s Ashes upon their thrones causes the Handmaid to sell a single Titanite Slab.
