Frost has an odd flow to it. All three of the routes through the middle of the map are either congested or very easy to cover from both ends. Consequently, moving through the center of the map is even more dangerous on this map than it is on most other levels.

The left and right sides have a distinct mix of terrain, with icy hallways and buildings providing plenty of options for CQC setups to dominate. There are a few longer sightlines through the middle and at the edges of the level, but not many, and you must be aware of your surroundings if you spend too long in one area and start attracting angry retaliation for camping with a longer range setup.

Informational perks, equipment, streaks, and Rig setups shine on this level. You need to know who is nearby and where they are to avoid being surprised. No matter which lane you choose to fight in, there is likely a flanking route nearby that you can’t watch directly.

Playing aggressively tends to be most new players’ default play style, but ironically, playing aggressively and effectively is actually one of the harder roles you can play in the game. It’s easy to go even (or worse), if you’re constantly dying and rushing the enemy spawn. Given how simple it is to die to a follow-up enemy after taking one down, consider how the risk is magnified if you’re always near the enemy team’s primary spawn location. That said, it isn’t impossible to play aggressively and effectively, far from it, but you need to be playing sharp, alert, and aware to excel.

Close range weapons and stealth loadouts tend to work best for aggressive play. You need a fast handling weapon with a low time to kill. Range tends to be less of a priority if you plan on being physically close to the enemy team most of a match.

On some levels, a mid-range weapon can be effective, as well, if the sightlines are generally too long for a short range gun to be effective. Stealth is also important. It’s possible to survive for extended periods of time near the enemy team without a stealth setup, but it’s that much harder.

You also need keen map knowledge and excellent situational awareness, because you need to know where the enemy is, where it is likely safe to move, and what lines of sight or lanes to avoid as often as possible. Even if you’re playing with a group (even a full group!), playing up near the enemy team the whole match is dangerous, and you are likely to be alone fairly often depending on how far forward you are pushed.

Finally, your movement skills need to be on point. You should have full mastery of thrust jumping and sliding. Repositioning rapidly while near the enemy team is vital, and you need every edge you can get if you’re going to engage multiple enemies back to back with regularity.
