Workhorse Weaponry

Despite the futuristic setting, a reliable assault rifle remains a powerful, functional, and useful weapon on the battlefield.

With the superior mobility afforded you by your Rig, you can reposition rapidly and pick your engagements carefully to suit the specific AR you choose to use.

Assault Rifles work best at medium range. Up close you run afoul of SMGs, and at greater distances, LMGs and snipers are a threat. At very close ranges, shotguns can also be a serious threat.

It is possible to win fights against SMGs, LMGs, and snipers at their preferred distances, depending on the particular AR you are using and the attachments and traits on your loadout, but whenever possible, you want to avoid firefights that suit other weapon classes.

Remember that the three Energy ARs (the R3K, Mod-2, and Volk) can make use of the Fusion Mag attachment instead of Extended Mags. Particularly in the case of the R3K (which you’re most likely to use at longer ranges), having ammo regeneration can be quite useful.

On the two full auto ARs (especially the Mod-2 with its auto-pistol transformation), you often burn through ammo considerably faster than it regenerates, but on the R3K, with careful use, you can suppress a lane or cover an objective almost indefinitely.

The Mod-2 is the transforming weapon in the AR class, capable of splitting into two handheld, short-range SMGs. Take advantage of this ability when you are moving into tight quarters. Just be sure to switch before you get into CQC. You don’t want to get caught mid-switch. Your accuracy is poor and ammo expenditure is high when using the Mod-2 in this fashion, but it can give you an edge against quite a few other weapons at very short range.

AR Notes
  • There are two types of assault rifle firing modes: Full auto and three-round burst.
  • The Mod-2 is a modular weapon, capable of splitting into dual auto-pistols for close-range use.
  • The R3K is the three-round burst rifle, best used at medium to long range.
  • The Volk, KBAR-32, and NV4 trade off rate of fire, stability, and effective range. Experiment with each to find your favorite.

NV4

Full auto Ballistic assault rifle. A moderate fire rate yields increased stability for best-in-class accuracy. Ideal for .mid- to long-range engagement.

R3K

Three-round burst Energy rifle. Each burst applies extreme stopping power at precise intervals.

KBAR-32

Full auto Ballistic assault rifle. Channels a fast fire rate through a lightweight mold for increased hipfire control and stability.

Type-2

Full auto Energy rifle. Hold weapon switch to split the rifle into akimbo auto-pistol mode for close-quarters combat. Features the highest fire rate in its class.

Volk

Full auto Energy rifle. Deploys best-in-class stopping power at a low, dependable fire rate.
