Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare eGuide Multiplayer Game Modes

Objective Modes

CTF

Get the enemy flag and return it to your base.

This is classic Capture the Flag: one flag in each base; capture the enemy team’s flag to score.

You cannot score unless your flag is at home, so if both flags are taken, it’s a temporary stalemate until the enemy team’s flag carrier is downed and your flag is returned.

CTF has pretty clearly defined roles; you can play offense and go for the flag, or play defense and cover (and recover) your own flag.

Playing defense has the possibility of earning mid to high-end scorestreaks more reliably than offense, something to consider if you enjoy posting up and camping an objective.

On defense, lethal and tactical trap equipment is useful, as are informational perks and gear. On offense, stealth and speed loadouts are extremely useful.

The midfield tends to be a constant battleground as the offense from both teams moves through it, but remember your goal is capturing the flag, so getting caught up in too many firefights in the middle can be actively detrimental to your actual flag runners. Killing a player in the midfield often makes them respawn right back by their flag, the last place your flag runner wants to see them.

If you’re playing with an organized team, trust your defenders to stop stray runners, and push for the flag if you’re playing offense.

Capture the Flag has a brief respawn delay, so getting taken out of the action gives a bit more time for players on offense to crack a tough defense. It also means dying has a bit more bite, so be mindful of the extra time lost from death.

Uplink

Upload the satellite drone into the enemy Uplink Station.

A spin on the classic CTF mode, Uplink plays a bit faster, with no respawn delay and only a single “flag” to worry about.

The drone spawns in the middle of the level, and resets to that position if thrown out of bounds or left on the ground for too long.

You can score in two ways: either by throwing the drone into the enemy Uplink goal, or by physically touching the enemy goal (dunk it!).

Touching the goal gives more points, but also carries more risk. On some maps, it is possible to throw the drone in from a good distance away. Experiment a bit in private matches with some friends to learn where you can throw and score a goal.

You can pass the drone to teammates, and doing so is often the fastest way to score, if you can set up a relay leading from the central drone pickup point right to the enemy flag. Two or three players are often enough to get the drone there extremely quickly.

On defense, defending right at the Uplink Station is usually a bad idea, because by the time a player gets there, they can throw it in. And stopping them with shots is not a guarantee, due to various Rig powers. Try to play a forward defense, stopping the enemies as they move toward your goal, rather than directly at it.
