Leave Them Dead: Additional Offensive Weaponry
In addition to the Baseball Bat, which is now available as a randomly encountered item, there are two new weapons, and an additional “box” that you need to be aware of:
M60 Heavy Machine Gun
Damage: Very High
Penetration: High
Accuracy: High
Range: Short to Long
Rate of Fire: High
Reload Time: N/A
Fire Mode: Automatic
Magazine Capacity: 150
Total Ammo: 150
Only available during The Passing, the M60 is a single-use item. (Once the magazine rounds are depleted, the weapon is discarded, like the Grenade Launcher.) It is mainly used as a suppressing weapon to drop large groups of Infected, or tougher enemies such as the Tank.
Its main benefit is its lack of reloading; you can pepper a target continuously without pausing. One bullet defeats one Common Infected (and Uncommon foes, including the Fallen Survivor), making it extremely potent when used during mass firefights, or in conjunction with Incendiary Ammunition or other bullet types (although you don’t receive a reloaded magazine when you pick up special ammo, like with other weapons).
Unfortunately, the M60 can leave you stranded without a Primary Weapon once the ammunition is depleted, so only use it if you have a Secondary Weapon to use until you reach the next weapon cache.
The weapon isn’t stellar at long ranges, but then, it doesn’t need to be. Back up others, ideally during the sewer rush in the Underground Stage of The Passing, and rake foes as rapidly as possible. There is an Achievement—Til It Goes Click—associated with this weapon.
Golf Club
This Melee Weapon acts in exactly the same way as all the other weapons, but with one small exception; if the “thwack” is aimed at a Common Infected’s head, the cranium explodes in a shower of messy brain parts. Obviously, this is extremely satisfying. There is an Achievement—Fore!—associated with this weapon.
Foot Locker
Appearing during the Campaign modes (but not Versus) is the Foot Locker, a military-spec, chunky crate brimming with a single kind of item, such as Adrenaline, Bile, Molotovs, Pain Pills, or Pipe Bombs.
The exact locations of each Foot Locker are listed in the Additional Achievements table below. You are encouraged to ransack each Foot Locker, and then return to grab additional items if necessary. There is an Achievement—Cache Grab—associated with this crate.
Mutation Nation: New Game Mode
This enhancement to one or more of the main game modes is also available to those with The Passing. Choose Mutation in the main menu and you’re able to play a slightly tweaked version of the game with one of a variety of “Mutations” active.
These Mutations run for a single week before being replaced by a new Mutation, so if you’re learning about this right now, you’ve already missed some of them! Popular Mutations may be incorporated into the game itself, but mostly, these are fleeting additions, only available for a finite time.
Additional Achievements and How to Access Them
| Icon | Name | Description | How to Obtain |
|---|---|---|---|
|
|
Torch Bearer |
Survive The Passing Campaign. |
This is straightforward: Complete The Passing Campaign on any difficulty. |
|
|
Port of Scavenge |
Play 5 full games of Scavenge on the Port. |
Just as the Achievement indicates. |
|
|
Fore! |
Knock off the heads of 18 infected with the Golf Club. |
This requires you to pick the Golf Club up (ideally at the start of Stage 1), and then spend the next 18 attacks thwacking Common Infected with a head strike, which bursts undead craniums. This can be done at any time, however. |
|
|
Til It Goes Click |
Using the M60, kill 25 infected without letting go of the trigger. |
For this to occur, you need to let your friends know you’ll be doing the killing, and you need a plentiful supply of foes. The ideal spot is at the end of the sewer run. There’s sometimes an M60 in the final safe room. Grab it and attack the foes on the stairs leading back down to the tunnel, or in the tunnel itself. |

|
Killing Them Swiftly To This Song |
Play the new Midnight Riders song on a jukebox. |
There are two jukeboxes to find; the first is in the Pool Hall in the first part of Underground. The second is in the bar room where the original Survivors are covering you from. Activate either of them, but be warned; this summons a Horde of furious foes! |
|
|
Wedding Crasher |
As the Charger, grab a Survivor and crash them through 8 chairs at the wedding. |
Naturally, this must be done during Versus, Scavenge, or Survival Versus Mutation modes in the park by the gazebo. Line yourself up, and ask an opposition teammate to stand in front of the single chairs if you’re having problems completing this in the heat of battle. |
|
Cache Grab |
Open 5 foot lockers. |
This takes more than one playthrough to obtain, as Foot Lockers appear usually in one of two spots. Find the five Foot Lockers in the following locations (which are also listed in the walkthrough):
1. Riverfront: Interior office, by the window.
|
|
|
Kite Like a Man |
Kill a Tank only with damage from the original Survivors. |
Attempt this during the finale of The Passing Campaign, while in Port. Let your friends know not to fire on the Tank, then lure it back to the generator and let the chaps on the balcony kill it, while you circle around, trying not to get yourself killed. |
|
|
Grave Robber |
Collect 10 items dropped by a Fallen Survivor. |
As described, shoot the new Uncommon Infected, and then scavenge the items on his corpse, grabbing everything each time. You’ll find one or two items on each Fallen Survivor, so you’ll need to drop at least five. Do this over one or more Campaigns. |
|
|
Mutant Overlord |
Play 6 Mutations. |
Because each Mutation is released (one per week) and then disappears, you must remain keenly aware of the time constraints of this Achievement. Obviously, this takes a minimum of six weeks to complete. Simply launch a Mutation mode game six times, with a different Mutation active on each occasion. |
