Chapter 5: Chef Zeppelin

Landing Pan

The level opens with your Skylander in control of a defense turret on Flynn’s ship. It functions the same as the turrets used previously, but it has an extra attack that charges with each enemy taken down. The extra attack changes based on the Element of your Skylander (and Villain, if you have one).

There are four winged gems that appear around the ship. If you manage to hit all four with blasts from the turret, you earn a x2 Bonus to your score. Don’t worry about taking a few hits if it means getting a winged gem; Flynn’s ship is tough! You earn the Cannon Completist achievement for shooting down eight Troll transports (they’re the first targets you shoot down). You don’t need to get all eight in one run. After clearing out the defenses, your Skylander appears on the Landing Pan.

Main Counter Top

Take out the Trolls and Grinnades that jump on the deck. Use the deck gun, then the handle that turns the gun. Fire the gun two more times to knock down two more doors, one after each turn of the crank.

Walk toward the gun on the right, but jump over the low spot in the loaf of bread railing. Collect the coins and the Legendary Pepper, then use the Teleport Pad to return to the upper deck. Turn the crank near the second deck gun and fire it to knock down a wooden barricade.

Side Spinner & Bottom Shelf

Dropping off the ledge past the second deck gun leads to two different places. The side with the flaming kabobs and coins is Side Spinner. The opposite side is Bottom Shelf. There’s an Air Gate at one end of Bottom Shelf. The other side has a Light Gate and a Story Scroll. Use the Super Bounce Pad to return to Main Counter Top when you’re done exploring.

Peculiarity of Light

Check on the Troll Radio and collect the piles of coins before tackling the sliding block puzzle. Use the raised, elongated platform to jump up to the higher blocks. Push the leftmost block down, then move the remaining blocks (there are three others) to create a path to the Bounce Pad and Juicer Hat.

Main Kabobs

Main Kabobs is the area to the left of Main Counter Top. Avoid the flaming arms and jump over the railing above where a Soul Gem is visible. Claim Chopper’s Soul Gem (Ultimate Dino Destruction), then use the Teleport Pad to return to Main Counter Top. There’s a small landing beyond the flaming kabob arms. Going up the cheese grater ramp leads to Topside Burners. Follow the hovering coins down one level to reach Chopping Block.

Topside Burners & Chopping Block

Persephone is the only attraction in Topside Burners. Hold off on visiting her until after you go down to the Chopping Block. The doorway in Chopping Block is locked with a Lock Puzzle. To solve the puzzle, send the Lock Master left, up, right, and down to douse him in water. Go left, up, right, and down to complete the puzzle and open the path to the Kitchen of Shame.

Kitchen of Shame

The chef in the Kitchen of Shame is culinarily challenged, and asks for help from Broccoli Guy.

Return to Main Kabobs and walk up the cheese grater ramp. Bomb Shell introduces himself here, but the fight against him doesn’t start yet. The ramp on the right leads back to the Main Counter Top, but it’s a one-way trip (it’s too high to jump back up to the ramp). The second left ramp goes to Smorgasboard, which you can also reach from Persephone’s perch in Topside Burners.

Smorgasboard

The way through Smorgasboard is locked with a Battle Gate. You must defeat waves of Trolls to open it. Expect to see at least one of each Troll type encountered up to this point. Grinnades join the fight as well. Take them out before they drop to the ground and detonate. When the coast is clear, Cookie has a quest for the Chompy Mage.

Top Shelf

The Chompies of Top Shelf don’t bother you. Ignore them on your way to the Lock Puzzle. The puzzle is full of breakable boxes, which require backing up and smashing into a few times to break them completely. Go down, up, down, right, up, down, up, right, left, right, down, left, up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right, left, right, left, right, and finally down. Gather the piles of valuables and the Treasure Chest. Drop down to Bottom Shelf (silver coins mark the spot) and use the Super Bounce Pad to return to Smorgasboard.

Cheese Graters & Auxiliary Kitchen

Descend the ramps that look like cheese graters until Tessa appears and points out a key. The Bomb needed to blast the wooden fence is down a long flight of stairs in Port Gangway. The Trolls guarding the locked door in Port Gangway won’t bother you if you grab the Bomb and use the Super Bounce Pad quickly.

Bomb the way clear. Go into Auxiliary Kitchen and defeat the Trolls and Grinnades to drop the Battle Gate. Claim your Treasure Chest and other valuables. Head back outside. To open the Battle Gate with the key, go down to Cooling Rack.

Cooling Rack

The warm-up act consists of a few Trolls and Grinnades. A gate blocks the exit, so the fight takes place in tight quarters. After you take down a Shrednaught, Bomb Shell joins the battle. Defeating him opens the way to the key needed to open the door in Port Gangway.

Bomb Shell

Bomb Shell does not come alone. A pair of Chill Bills supports him at the start of the fight. Watch for the large red circles to appear on the ground. They mark Bomb Shell’s target zone. Don’t think they’re safe after his bombs detonate. Purple fire clings to the area briefly and it’s just as dangerous as being hit by a bomb.

Bomb Shell is not mobile and takes a few seconds between bomb tosses. Bait throws away from his position if you need to keep the area clear for melee attacks.

Port Gangway

Grab the key and return to Port Gangway. Eliminate the Trolls and Grinnades. Unlock the door and step inside Command Kitchen.

Command Kitchen & Garbage Disposal

Batterson introduces Skystones Smash and explains how the game works. You must defeat Pot Roast to earn his trust and gain access to Chef Pepper Jack.

Don’t hurry off for the final battle until after you tune the Troll Radio, slide down the sink across from Pot Roast, and visit the Fire Gate. Slide down to Garbage Disposal, where the Winged Sapphire waits. Use the Bounce Pad to return to Command Kitchen.

Chef Pepper Jack

Chef Pepper Jack drops peppers that turn into expanding fiery orbs. He charges behind the fiery attack with an egg beater. Dodge the charge, and attack while he’s recovering from the pots and pans falling on him. If your Skylander needs some health, look for food in the piles of cookware.

After losing some health, Chef Pepper Jack jumps back up to his perch and uses laser wires that make the floor hazardous. Jump over the beams, or use a flying Skylander, and aim for wider spots when the lasers change angles and directions.

Chef Pepper Jack drops down to the floor again and repeats his charging attack behind pepper bombs. He throws down more peppers this time, so less of the floor is safe when avoiding his charge. After another round of charging and lasers, Chef Pepper Jack tosses out giant steaks. Jump on the steaks to avoid the lasers, but watch for them to flash white. That flash means Chef Pepper Jack is about to destroy the steak with one of his peppers.

Be ready for one more round of pepper-tossing and egg beater-charging, but the battle ends with your Skylander hopping between steaks until Chef Pepper Jack is well-done.

Back at Skylander Academy

The kitchen opens in the Main Hall. Put the Legendary Pepper in its place. Hit the floating dodecahedrons in the cauldron with an attack from a Skylander of the proper element to destroy them. Destroy all the dodecahedrons to earn rewards. Talk to Cali when you’re ready for a squid hunt.
