Chapter 17: Lair of the Golden Queen

Tomb of the Forgotten Queen

Speak with Cali, who is standing not too far from a Troll Radio. Push the blocks past Cali to create a clear path for the energy beam emanating from the wall to the crystal in the middle of the room. Turn the switch near the door twice to open the way to the Halls of Treachery.

The Halls of Treachery

The nearby bridge leads to an area with a Battle Gate and an Air Gate. Cali appears with a warning about the bridge ahead that you should heed. Before you press on, break out one of your Giants and step on the small blue button in the corner.

The tiles Cali warned you about can support a Skylander’s weight long enough to grab the coins floating on them and hop back off. Falling into the sand below sends your Skylander to The Darkest Reach.

The Darkest Reach

Fight against skeletal dragons and eyeballs. Look for a Villain Stash in one corner. Defeat Mut, the Mabu, near the gate in Skystones Smash to reach the Teleport Pad that leads back to the Halls of Treachery.

Glumshanks has a quest for Bad Juju at the end of the bridge with the shaky tiles in the Halls of Treachery. Just beyond him are Short Cut’s Soul Gem (Scissor Stilts), and a Traptanium crystal. You must destroy the Traptanium crystal to get to the block you need to reach the SoulGem.

The second bridge with shaky tiles has an additional surprise: spear trap tiles. Watch out for the tiles with holes in them. Step on every tile on the bridge to reach a hidden path ahead.

The Secret Vault

Walk to the back of the room with the crystal beam puzzle. If you missed any tiles on the bridge, the wall remains in place. You can see the Legendary Hippo Statue but you can’t reach it until you step on every tile on that bridge.

Move the blocks to provide a clear path between the crystals in the room just outside the Secret Vault. Use the switch in the corner twice to open the door.

The bridge beyond the opened door has two new tiles. Avoid the glowing tiles (they deal damage) and use tiles with green crosses that heal your Skylander. The key in the corner unlocks the door off one side of the bridge.

Walk toward the key on the second row of tiles to the left of where you start (it’s entirely fall-away tiles), pick up the key and come back on the row that touches the stone path that leads to the locked gate.

This key is used in two places, but it can be used only one time per trip this level. Unlock the gate and collect the Winged Sapphire. If you already have the Winged Sapphire, carry the key across the bridge to the doorway beyond it. The door leads to the Parade of Broken Soldiers, and there’s no returning to this area after passing through the door.

The Parade of Broken Soldiers

Push the three blocks on the lowest level forward to build a path to the higher ledge. Push the blocks from both sides of the golden pool into it.

Cali pops up again and offers a warning about the Spy Guys. Avoid their beams of light (if you’re caught, you must begin at the front edge of the Spy Guy’s patrol area) by stepping into corners or hopping on top of platforms.

The pit directly ahead of where you passed the first Spy Guy has a Treasure Chest in the back. Push the three blocks in the lower area into a line in the center of the floor. There is now a gap between the first and second block, but your Skylander can make the jump.

The next area has a pair of Spy Guys. Attack the statues on the left side of the path to topple them on the Spy Guys. Cali appears not far from a Traptanium crystal, with Grave Clobber’s quest.

Destroy the crystal to reveal a key, one of two required to unlock a gate in front of a Treasure Chest. If you carried the key from the previous area, this is where to use it. Sneak past the two Spy Guys and get ready for a long fight against a few waves of skeletal enemies, and a chance to capture Bad Juju. After the fight ends (there’s more fight after Bad Juju goes down), take on Nut in Skystones Smash to open the gate.

Bad Juju

Bad Juju remains in the middle of the chamber and relies on whirlwind attacks and allies to do the dirty work. The whirlwind is only annoying at first, spinning its target around and around, throwing off your aim and keeping your Skylander locked in place. Watch out for the lightning strikes from above. They fall exactly on a whirlwind, so get out as soon as possible.

The Seat of Flowing Gold, Heart of Gold & The Temple of the Divine Treasure

Go left at the first intersection. The solid path ends at a large bridge of various tiles (damaging, breakaways, and so on). Run straight across the bridge (avoid the damaging tiles!) to the Magic Gate.

From the Magic Gate entrance, angle to the left across the bridge. Go down the hallway (not up the stairs on the left!) and hop on the stone railing on the right. Avoid the Spy Guy (stay on the railing as much as possible) and go to the end of the long hallway. There’s a Story Scroll, and a Lock Puzzle that you don’t need to worry about.

Return to the stairway and go up to the top. It’s an uneventful climb until Cali pops up at the top with one last warning.

Golden Queen

The Golden Queen begins the battle by creating expanding and contracting gold circles on the ground. Only the edges inflict damage. Jump over the edges and get in your shots on the Queen. Get used to dealing with these circles; they appear often over the course of this battle. Using a flying Skylander makes avoiding the circles easier.

After she takes some damage, she ejects rings on the ground. Collect the rings quickly, or she absorbs them back, restoring some of her health.

The Golden Queen summons golden wings that fly around the area while she hides behind a shield. She also sends out blades that spin around on the ground. Avoid the blades and attack the wings. The Queen is vulnerable to attacks up until the point she shields herself, but you also need to eliminate the wings to advance the fight on to the next stage.

For the next stage of the battle, the outermost rows of tiles vanish, shrinking the battle area. The battle continues with more golden circles, the wing firing out blades that bounce around the area, and tiles being eliminated from the floor.

When the floor is down to three rows, the Golden Queen vanishes. The floor shrinks down to 3 x 3 grid of tiles. When a new one appears, run or jump to it to avoid a golden sphere crashing down from above.

The floor resets and then becomes a 3 x 3 grid in the middle. Four wings appear, one on each corner of the grid. Long lines of blades bounce off the walls and tear through the area where your Skylander is fighting. Jump over blades and attack wings. Focus on one wing at a time and eliminate it before moving on to the next.

The gold globe appears again and slams down into the file. The tiles vanish in a rippling wave. Wait until the last possible moment and jump over the wave of vanishing tiles. The row behind should reappear as your Skylander hits the ground.

The Golden Queen hits a growth spurt and takes up an entire side of the battle arena. She emits huge streams of blades that you must avoid. She’s invulnerable while the blades are out, but requires a brief period of rest. As soon as she’s down, jump in and attack.

The following two rounds of spinning blades are accompanied by gold circles. Keep on jumping to avoid both. When the floor shrinks, the golden circles are gone, replaced with wings. Eliminate the wings quickly, while avoiding the spinning blades.

The final stage involves one simple strategy: run! Follow Cali down the steps and do not stop. Quickly remove any debris in the way and get moving again. One touch from Golden Queen takes out any Skylander and you must start over again from the top of the stairs, with a new Skylander. At the bottom of the stairs, attack the support columns of the arch to end the battle.

Back at Skylander Academy

Take the Legendary Hippo Head to the staircase just outside the Game Room. Talk to Flynn to thwart Kaos one more time!
