Chapter 18: The Ultimate Weapon

Loading Zone & Receiving Dock

The Loading Zone has the Golden Queen’s quest and destructible objects. Go up the steps to reach a Super Bounce Pad.

The Super Bounce Pad deposits your Skylander near a Dark Gate. A Battle Gate on the ground hides a Bounce Pad. Bounce up to the walkway above and go through the door to enter the Relay System.

Power Re-Router

Avoid the sparks passing between the cobra heads while jumping over the gaps between platforms. The sparks don't inflict much damage, so taking a few hits won't be the end of your Skylander. The Brain Hat is your reward for reaching the back platform.

Relay System

Use every switch in the room one time, except the one to the left of the two horshoe magnets hanging from the ceiling, to bring up the bridge and open the nearby door. The door goes to the Matter Refactoring Room.

Matter Refactoring Room

Follow the catwalk until it ends. Drop down and take on the Smoke Scream and Grinnades that guard a Battle Gate. The Bounce Pad under the Battle Gate sends your Skylander up to a higher catwalk, but save that trip until after you drop down one level near the Bounce Pad for a Winged Sapphire.

Bounce up to the higher catwalk. There’s a Troll Radio to the left and a laser puzzle to the right. Use the switch one time to start the giant wheel turning. Hop on one of the platforms and ride it out to collect all the coins. Hop off at the top. Go left past the Lock Puzzle for a Treasure Chest.

To clear the first stage of the Lock Puzzle, go right, down, left, up, down, left, down, right, up, left, right, up, left, down, right, down, left, and up to collect all the coins. Go left, right, left, up, down, right, down, up, down, right, up, left, and down.

To clear the second stage, go up, right, down, right, left, down, right, up, left, down, left, right, and up to go through the water. Go right, right, and up to collect the final coin. Go down, left, down, right, and down.

On the third stage, go right, up, down, left, up, left, down, left, up, right, down, down, up, down, left, up, left, down, right, down, left, up, left, and down.

Step on the large, red button that is revealed. It sends your Skylander plummeting downward. If you manage to collect 9 coins here, you earn the achievement, Do a Barrel Roll.

Repair Platform H

Jump over the right side gap, visit the Tech Gate, and grab the Story Scroll. Go back to the left and interact with the purple and gold tube to gain access to a Bounce Pad.

The Bounce Pad drops your Skylander into another fight. When all the enemies are defeated, a door opens and a warning about the power is displayed. Go through the newly opened door to go out to the External Power Sorter.

External Power Sorter

Persephone is directly outside the door. Turn around and follow the walkway back to a Treasure Chest. Avoid the red light bursts passing between the statue mouths. Use each switch once at the laser puzzle to form the bridges needed to reach Buzz and the door to Power Exhaust Ports.

Power Exhaust Ports

Smoke Scream attacks immediately, but he’s not alone! After you defeat Smoke Scream, additional enemies, including Hood Sickle and Broccoli Guy, continue to fight.

Smoke Scream

Smoke Scream uses two attacks. The first is a short-range flamethrower. He kneels slightly just before using it. Smoke Scream’s second attack is a bouncing barrel. He pauses and lowers the grate just below his turret before releasing a barrel.

When all the enemies are defeated, a bridge extends from across the room. Jump up the platforms to reach Ka-Boom’s Soul Gem (Missile Rain). You need to start on the right and work back to the left to reach the Soul Gem. Jump under the vacuum in the circular area behind the Soul Gem to be whisked away to the Grinder.

The Grinder

Glumshanks would like to play Skystones Smash, and is appreciative even in defeat. Use the two switches for the laser puzzle one time each to raise two platforms to span a gap in your path.

The next area becomes incredibly hazardous after spinning arms pop up from the floor. Weave between the arms toward the large, red button behind them. Step on the button, avoid the arms again, and head for the door in the back of the area.

The Fly Wheels

Clear out the enemies that spawn. Use the switch one time to activate the fly wheel. Ride it around to the balloons on the left side. There are two more fly wheels to ride around to reach the top. Go to the right for a Villain Stash. Step on the platform straight ahead to fight Kaos.

Kaos

Kaos opens the fight with Traptanium-powered circles that are similar to what the Golden Queen used. Avoid the edges and attack when you can, including while Kaos charges up his attack and after the attack, while he engages in taunting. Use flying Skylanders to more easily avoid the circles.

Kaos switches to using two types of “bullets” as an attack. One type depends on your Skylander. It is the same element as your Skylander and restores health. The other is a different element that deals more damage than the other bullets restore. Make sure you have a Villain on the portal. When Kaos uses the bullets, tag between Skylander and Villain to avoid taking damage from the bullets.

Resorting to an old trick, Kaos sends out Doom Sharks. Move just around the edges of the Doom Sharks to restore health. Continue to hit Kaos when you can.

Kaos powers up (and heals a bit) by adding Traptanium crystals in the form of swords and dashes in a straight line, chopping downward. Fortunately, he telegraphs the attack, making it easier to avoid.

Kaos powers up and heals again, adding wings this time. He ditches the dashing sword attack, and opts for covering the battle area with laser beams. Stay away from the beams as best you can. Not every beam indicates an attack, but his attack could run along any of the beams.

Kaos continues to mix up his various attacks, except for when he flies out of range and covers the arena with laser lines. He uses different patterns each time.

He has an enormous health pool to get through, but keep at it and you should have Kaos in his specially-designed trap soon enough!

Back at Skylanders Academy

Completing the Story Mode unlocks the Nightmare Mode, Difficult Dares, and awards you different Arkeyan Helms, based on what level of difficulty you completed. There’s much more left to do (as the assembled people at Skylanders Academy let you know!), so keep on adventuring Portal Master! Your first trip should be to the Kitchen, where the Legendary Weird Robot will make his home.
