Quest Preparation
Put Trolling Thunder in a Tech trap before you begin Nightmare Express. The second second quest requires two trips. After you trap Lob Goblin, you need to return to complete his quest.
Temple Ruins Approach
Before speaking to Cali to officially start the chapter, run up the hill to the right to find a new area and seek out Da Pinchy.
Temple Site Overlook
Speak to Gobler to get a hint about a chest in a remote location. Walk up to the Bomb at the end of the cliff to record this new area but the only way to get to this chest is to complete the Trolling Thunder Quest. Speak to Da Pinchy at the bottom of the hill to find out what needs to be done.
Suspended Island Ruin
Removing the boulder also knocks down the large statue of Flynn, but the good news is that it makes a bridge to another area. Cross the makeshift bridge and grab the Cycling Hat.
Continue to the wooden bridge and push the large rolling bomb into the gate with a bomb symbol to blow it up. Open the now accessible Treasure Chest and return to the starting spot of the chapter.
Talk to Cali and listen to her tale of the Trolly Grail. Flynn went after the artifact alone and got into trouble. To find him you need to use the automatic bomb builder (the blue glowing circle) to make a large rolling bomb that can blow up walls and other structures. Jump on the blue circle and push the large bomb into the blockade ahead. Before going to the Rubble Pathway use a Trap Master of the Tech Element to open the gate on the right.
Rubble Pathway
Rush into the area to deal with the Lob Goblins and use the Bounce Pad to the left to leap up to a ledge and find a Treasure Chest.
Return to the start of the level and activate the automatic bomb builder and push another large rolling bomb down the same path. Instead of trying to roll it up the wooden bridge, push it over the edge to the right.
Forgotten Ledge & Hidden Cavern
Push the bomb into the wall that has the red bomb icon to blow it up. The explosion reveals a secret entrance to the Hidden Cavern. Collect the Story Scroll “Meditations on Boom”—Appendix III. Pick up the bomb and go back outside to the Forgotten Ledge. Use the Bounce Pad to return to the top level. Move as quickly as you can and toss the bomb into the barricade to get access to the Tank Terrace Ruins.
Tank Terrace Ruins
There are three tanks in this area and each is guarding a key. You need all three keys to unlock the door to the Temple of Boom. Grab the first bomb in front of you and toss it at the tank to the left before it can lock in on your location. Pick up the bomb again and toss it at the tank at the bottom of the stairs. Wipe out the enemies that are hiding near the key and go up the hill. Once again, pick up a bomb and destroy the last tank at the top of the hill, then talk to Peebs.
Before using the three keys to go after Flynn, smash the Traptanium crystal on the lower level in between the location of the two tanks. The crystal blocks the entrance to another secret area, but make sure you grab a bomb before entering.
Underground Ruins
Switch to a Villain from one of your Traptanium traps and open the Villain Stash to the left. Go back outside and grab a bomb if you don’t have one, then toss it at the Stone Cage to free the artifact. Leap up the ledges on the right and jump to the Legendary Flynn Statue.
Go back outside to the Tank Terrace Ruins and finally continue your mission searching for Flynn. Use all three keys in the mouth of the statue to unlock the way into the temple.
Temple of Boom
Flynn got trapped trying to snag the Trolly Grail and needs some help getting loose. To free Flynn you need to step on the two blue circular switches, but that is not as easy as it sounds. First, the wall to the right must be destroyed to reach that section. This takes a bit of block pushing to maneuver the cannon down to a breakable part of the wall.
Before running to the newly opened section on the right, move the three blocks that were near the cannon into a straight line. This makes a bridge connecting the left and right sections. Cross the bridge and step on the first button.
Go to the back of the room and jump up a series of ledges, watching out for the floor spikes. Continue on that path around the back of the room to get to the right side. Step on the second glowing button to free Flynn. Leave through the newly made opening. Unfortunately for Flynn he doesn’t get to enjoy the Trolly Grail for long as Noodles, the overgrown green cylcops, steals it.
Temple Battle Arena
As soon as you exit the temple there is an opportunity to catch Trolling Thunder.
Wipe out any remaining enemies and go up the narrow wooden planks where you first entered the area (on the left side of the screen) to reach the Cliffside Sanctuary.
Cliffside Sanctuary
Drop off the edge of the cliff and use your puzzle solving skills to complete the Lock Puzzle. Move to the right to slide across the red bumpers, then slide up and down to smash through the breakable blocks to collect the coins in the bottom left corner. Go straight up through the gate and around to the left to line up with the next gate on the right. Pass through this gate and collect the coins to the left, then return to the top right corner going up and left to line up with the next gate. Go down through this gate and move to the left to finally slide up and complete the first puzzle.
Go to the right and smash through the breakable block below. Move to the left corner, breaking a few more blocks, and ride through the red bumpers. Go up through the gate to gain the water ability and then through the gate to the left. Repeat the previous path to smash through the breakable block at the end of the red bumpers. Use the water ability to put out the flames in the bottom left to get to the exit.
Once you’ve opened the giant lock, get the Winged Sapphire and bounce back to the Cliffside Sanctuary above. Use the Bounce Pad near the end of the walkway to access a Traptanium Gate.
Backtrack to the Temple Battle Arena and forward through the open gate between two large stone columns.
Iron Tank Confrontation
Return to where you defeated the Trolling Thunder and Cali mentions that Flynn and Noodles went down this path. However, a Troll Mega Tank shows up and complicates things. This tank is too tough for a regular bomb! You need to find a way to get one of the large rolling bombs into this ravine. Don’t stand in the crossfire of the tank for long while battling the enemies, instead make a quick retreat to the right by smashing the wooden poles.
Bomb Closet
Talk to Elbow to reinforce that the smaller bomb will not affect the big tank. However, this bomb can destroy the wall on the left side of the ravine, allowing access to a new area. Before grabbing the explosive, drop down a ledge and smash the Traptanium crystal to reveal a Treasure Chest.
Bounce back up to Elbow, grab the bomb, and run back to the Iron Tank Confrontation area to toss the explosive at the wall. Run up the steps and speak to Musgrove.
Lower Rolling Bomb Range
Step on the button to release a large bomb. It can’t be pushed down into the ravine and must be maneuvered there the long way. Push the rolling bomb down into the next area and bowl over the enemies while trying to get it into the back corner on the elevator.
Talk to Persephone if you want to upgrade your Skylander and press the button to raise the elevator when the bomb is in place. Stepping on the button also lowers the gate blocking the way ahead.
Upper Rolling Bomb Range
Position the rolling bomb on the two rising platforms and roll it through the enemies. If you are up for a game of Skystones Smash, Da Pinchy is on the left and is eager to play.
Roll the bomb into the grove to the left of the steps. Use the nearby button to activate the Vertical Bomb Launcher and send the bomb to the upper level. Stand on one more blue button to open the last set of bars to finally have the rolling bomb smash into the Mega Tank.
KABOO-oose
Automatically hop aboard the Nightmare Express and follow Flynn to chase after Noodles. Grab the bomb on a crate and leap up a series of crates to toss the explosive at the hatch. Jump across to the next car and drop down to the interior of the train.
Box Car & Special Delivery
Smash all the breakable goodies inside the train and push the crate near the ledge at the back room to use it as a stepping stone. Back on top of the train, leap down and grab the bomb to use against the tank. Return to get another bomb and leap up a very tall stack of crates to blow up another hatch. Leap down once again to reenter the train.
Dining Car
A group of enemies, including a Lob Goblin, Chill Bill, and several others, tries to prevent your progress to the front of the train. Smash them if you like or simply run to the back of the room and leap up the crates to escape.
Noodles
The first round of foes consists of a pair of Troll Welders, Shield Trolls, and a Lob Goblin. Hunt down the bomb thrower first and clean up the rest. Reinforcements soon arrive, including waves of Chill Bills and Grinnades. Follow the drop ships and switch sides to wipe out the enemies as soon as they appear.
The last several foes include Trolling Thunders. Circle around these tanks to avoid their fire and attack their backs. The final confrontation is out of your hands. Flynn takes care of Noodles personally and gets some revenge for Cyclops’s earlier attack.
