Skystones Smash is a new game played in Skylands. Almost every chapter during the adventure includes one or more Skystone players ready to challenge you to a card battle. Batterson teaches you the game during Chapter 5: Chef Zeppelin, but you meet the first Skystone player while battling The Gulper in Chapter 1: Soda Springs. When you defeat other Skystones Smash players, you earn an amount of gold based on how challenging the other player was.
Building Your Skystone Collection
There’s only one way to get more Skystones, and that’s to defeat the Villains listed at the beginning of each chapter of the adventure. Their portraits appear while the level is loading, and again on the Dares screen. After you defeat one of these Villains for the first time, whether you trap them or not, their Skystone is added to your collection.
Tips for Winning Skystone Smash
Don’t use powerful Skystones when they’re not necessary
A Skystone’s “extra” attack value does not carry through to damage the player. If your opponent’s Skystone with three attack hits a Skystone with 1 health, the two extra attack points go to waste. This is important to keep in mind when your Skystones are not as good as your opponent’s. Your 1 Attack/1 Health Sheep Creep is just as effective at stopping the 3 Attack/1 Health Brawl and Chain as your own Brawl and Chain would be.
Save your Fireball Skystones until they can do maximum damage
Chef Pepper Jack and Wolfgang are the only characters who get to attack every Skystone your opponent has in play. Save Fireball for a time when it will hit multiple cards. You might even clear out the opponent’s entire side and free all of your cards to hit the other player.
High attack/low health Skystones are good for one attack; make it count and don’t think you’ve wasted the Skystone
Eye Five, Masker Mind, and Threatpack might only get one attack. Put that attack to good use by hitting the opponent directly, or taking down a powerful Skystone like Smoke Scream.
Special Ability Skystones
Some Skystones have a special ability that is activated when they are played. These abilities are the first action taken after the Skystones have been placed. So, for example, if you place Chef Pepper Jack, he immediately hits the opponent’s Skystones for one damage. Each effect takes place only when the Skystone is placed. In subsequent rounds, it is treated as a regular Skystone.
Fireball
Damages every opponent Skystone currently in play. The number of fireballs on the Skystone indicate how much damage is done to each Skystone.
Heart Boost
Restores your health. With Heart Boost you can push your health above its original starting value (10). The number of hearts on the Skystone indicate how much health is restored.
Lightning
Damages the other player directly. The number of lightning bolts on the stone indicates how much damage is done.
Sheepify
Changes one of the other player’s Skystones into a sheep with one health. The target is always the Skystone directly across from where you place the Sheepify Skystone, unless the slot is blank. Then it targets the opponent’s most powerful Skystone.
