Guiding the Gravekeeper
The final underground chamber is big and free of threats. Drop from the entry ledge to meet up with Dampé, Ikana Graveyard’s keeper. Dampé is looking for the Royal Family’s treasure, but he isn’t having much luck. His torch has gone out, so he asks that Link lead him around with the light of his Fairy friend, Tatl.
Agree to help Dampé, then
-Target him and lead him around to each of the dirt mounts in the cavern. Don’t move too far from Dampé, or he’ll lose you and start wandering off. Remain locked on to Dampé with
-Targeting to keep him in sight as you lead him to each dirt mound.
When you reach a dirt mound, Dampé asks if you want him to dig. Tell him to do so, and he’ll start digging. Sometimes he finds nothing, but other times, he unearths an eerie blue flame. It’s these flames that you’re looking for, and you need to find three of them.
Wallmaster
Damage: 1 Heart
This devious enemy’s name is misleading, for Wallmasters actually drop from the ceiling, aiming to snatch Link up and return him to the entrance of the current cave or dungeon. A telltale sound and a shadow that grows on the ground beneath Link betray their arrival. Run and roll to dodge the Wallmaster’s drop, then defeat the fiend before it flees. Slaying a Wallmaster prevents it from reappearing for quite some time.
There are six dirt mounds to dig in all, and you must lead Dampé onto the room’s two elevator platforms in order to reach the two higher mounds. Move Link onto one of the elevator platforms, which sinks a bit under Link’s weight, and wait for Dampé to join you. Step off the platform after Dampé arrives, and the gravekeeper gets ferried up to a higher vantage. You have to find your own way up and meet him there (climb the blocks to reach the east ledge, and scale the ladder to reach the west platform). Otherwise, Dampé falls without digging. It may help to start with the elevator platforms, since they’re a bit tricky.
Big Poe Battle
Once you’ve had Dampé dig up all three blue flames, a monstrous ghost appears. Dampé runs for his life, and for good reason. It’s a Big Poe!
-Target the Big Poe, and hold
to block its spinning attack. Immediately after blocking, shoot the Big Poe with your Hero’s Bow. The Big Poe’s blows knock just one Heart off your life energy, so this spooky specter really isn’t all that scary. You can shoot the Big Poe only once with the Hero’s Bow after blocking it, and you can’t shoot it while it’s spinning.
Mini-boss in a Bottle
After you’ve bested the Big Poe, a chest appears in the chamber. Before you open it, use an Empty Bottle to scoop up the Big Poe’s soul.
Big Poe’s Soul
You caught a Big Poe in a bottle! This may lead to something good…
With the Big Poe’s soul safely bottled up, open the chest that has appeared near the entrance to claim a Piece of Heart. It’s a worthy reward for such a hard-fought battle.
Piece of Heart #34
You got a Piece of Heart! Collect four Pieces of Heart to assemble a new Heart Container. Each new container you put together increases the amount of life energy you can have.
