Bats, Man
Vicious Wolfos and pesky Bad Bats guard this trail at night. If you don’t want to battle the Wolfos, play the Song of Double Time to advance to the Dawn of the Second Day, and you’ll find Green and Red Chuchus there instead.
Wolfos
Damage: 1/2 Heart
These wild wolves only come out at night. They spring up from the ground in ambush, circling around Link and swiping at him with their razor-sharp claws. Lock on to a Wolfos, and raise Link’s shield to block their strikes. Make a Wolfos miss, and it spins around, exposing its vulnerable tail. Strike the tail twice with Link’s sword to send the Wolfos howling away in defeat. You can also interrupt a Wolfos’ attack by striking just before it does, but it takes four hits to defeat them this way.
Bad Bat
Damage: 1/4 Heart
Heads up! Bad Bats circle the skies, swooping down at Link without warning. They inflict little damage and are easily slain with a single swipe of Link’s blade, making Bad Bats easy prey. In a pinch, lock on and use Deku Link’s bubbles to blast them from the sky.
After defeating the Wolfos (or playing the Song of Double Time to advance to the Dawn of the Second Day), approach the large nearby tree. Whether it’s day or night, several Bad Bats circle the tree and swoop down at you. Lock on to each one, and slay all of the pests with Link’s blade (use Deku Link’s bubbles to get the higher ones).
When you’re certain that you’ve slain all of the Bad Bats (tap the View button to scan the sky), circle around the tree, and notice some vines running up its south side. Climb these vines to reach the tree’s top, where a precious Piece of Heart is hidden. (If any Bad Bats are still in the way, blast them with Deku Link’s bubbles.)
Piece of Heart #10
You got a Piece of Heart! Collect four Pieces of Heart to assemble a new Heart Container. Each new container you put together increases the amount of life energy you can have.
Raid a Rupee Cavern
Perhaps you noticed the hole in the ground near the big tree you just climbed. Drop into the hole to visit an underground cavern that features two Deku Babas, a Mini Baba, and a chest. Slay the monsters, and then open the chest to find a Red Rupee.
Talk with Tingle
Proceed down the trail that’s lined with painted poles to find your old pal Tingle floating up and down on a red balloon. (The Swamp Shooting Gallery lies down the other trail, but you can’t play this game until you’ve found a bow.) Use Deku Link’s bubbles to pop Tingle’s balloon and knock him down.
Speak with Tingle after knocking him down, and he’ll offer to sell you maps of the Woodfall and Snowhead areas. The Snowhead map can wait, but be sure to purchase the Woodfall map for 20 Rupees. Continue south afterward, heading into the Southern Swamp.
Woodfall Map
You got a map of Woodfall! Now you can find your way around the swamp. The red arrow on the map shows where you entered, and the yellow arrow shows your current location.
