The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask 3D Guide › Walkthrough › Chapter 3: Termina Field and the Southern Swamp

Woods of Mystery

Follow the Monkey

Just inside the Woods of Mystery, you find a monkey excitedly hopping around. Speak to the monkey, and he asks you to follow him. Sure, why not?

Hurry after the monkey, and don’t let him get too far ahead. You must follow the monkey’s exact path, and he won’t wait for you. Making any false moves may cause you to suddenly exit the woods; if this happens, head back inside and speak to the monkey again to begin the chase anew. Sprint past the big, ferocious turtles (called Snappers) that you encounter along the way—you don’t have time to fight them!

Monkey Moves

Having trouble tracking the monkey? The path that he follows changes depending on the day. Check and see which day it is, then follow one of these two routes (from the starting point):

First Day: Left, right, right, straight, left, left.

Second Day: Right, left, straight, left, left, right.

Final Day: Straight, left, right, right, straight, right.

Purple Plunder

If you travel through the Woods of Mystery on the Second Day, make sure to drop into the hole in the ground in the second part of the woods. You’ll land in a small cave with a treasure chest. Open it to pocket a Purple Rupee!

Snapper

Damage: 1/4 Heart

These tough-shelled tortoises move very slowly until they spot Link. At that point, they tuck into their shells and begin to spin around, chasing Link down. Snappers are immune to Link’s blade until he blasts them with a bomb. This flips Snappers over onto their backs, letting Link lay into them with his sword.

Helping the Hags

Just keep following the monkey, ignoring the flying hag that you might pass along the way (again, she only appears during the Second Day). The monkey always follows the same route each day, and he eventually leads you to a second hag, who’s fallen and can’t get up. It seems that the Skull Kid got the drop on this unfortunate hag while she was picking mushrooms in the woods. That wicked imp sure does get around!

The weary hag needs something that restores energy, but you don’t have anything of the sort. Backtrack to the flying hag that you passed moments ago by traveling directly away from the downed hag, and then taking a left, followed by a right. If you get lost and exit the woods, simply enter again, and follow the monkey back to the flying hag.

Lock on to the flying hag with -Targeting, and she’ll land nearby. After she lands, Link speaks to her, telling her of the other hag’s plight. The flying hag gives you a Bottle of Red Potion to take back to her sister, whom she identifies as Koume.

Bottle ofRed Potion

You got a Bottle of Red Potion! Red Potion replenishes health. After using the potion, save the bottle for storing things.

Hag Hunter

If it’s the First Day, then the flying hag won’t appear in the Woods of Mystery. Leave the woods, and visit the Magic Hags’ Potion Shop instead to obtain your Bottle of Red Potion.

After giving you the Bottle of Red Potion, the Magic Hag takes off, returning to the Potion Shop. Make your way back to the wounded hag, Koume, exiting the woods and following the monkey back through again if need be. Speak with Koume and give her the Bottle of Red Potion that her sister, whom she identifies as Kotake, gave you.

The potion does the trick, reviving Koume. She’s so grateful that she tells Link to visit her at the Swamp Tourist Center for a free boat cruise. Sounds fun! As a bonus, you get to keep the Empty Bottle that contained the Red Potion. Take your leave of the Woods of Mystery to return to the Southern Swamp.

Empty Bottle #1

You got an Empty Bottle! You can carry various items in this. Equip the bottle, and use it to contain or release items.
