Woodfall Temple’s final foe is a towering tribal warrior named Odolwa. Keep your distance from this skilled swordsman until the time is right to strike.
Odolwa performs a ritual dance before leaping and striking. Lock on to, the boss and be prepared to leap away from his attacks.
Try as you might, there’s seems to be no way of harming Odolwa. But of course, there’s always a way. Put on the Deku Mask, and then dive into one of the room’s Deku Flowers. Odolwa loses sight of Link while he’s burrowed underground. Still, don’t stay there for too long, or Odolwa performs a special dance that causes big rocks to fall on Link.
Pop up from the Deku Flower and glide toward Odolwa. Press
to drop a Deku Nut on the boss just as you pass by overhead. (Smash the surrounding jars to find Deku Nuts if you need some.)
Zap! Stunning Odolwa with a Deku Nut causes him to topple over. Now’s your chance! Take off the Deku Mask, target the big eye on Odolwa’s head, and unleash a flurry of sword strikes to inflict maximum damage.
After taking a few hits, Odolwa calls down a rain of bugs that pursue Link around the arena. It pays to slay these little pests, for they often drop useful items, including Deku Nuts and Recovery Hearts.
Keep stunning Odolwa with Deku Nuts and slashing him with Link’s sword each time he collapses. It won’t be long before this big, bad boss finally falls.
Contain Yourself
After he’s defeated, Odolwa vanishes and leaves a Heart Container behind. Collect it to instantly extend Link’s life energy by one Heart.
Heart Container #1
You got a Heart Container! Your maximum life energy is increased by one Heart. You also get a full refill of life energy.
Free Spirit
That’s not all Odolwa has left behind. Step into the blue light that lingers where he fell to collect a new mask. It’s Odolwa’s Remains!
Odolwa’s Remains
You’ve seized Odolwa’s Remains! In doing so, you’ve freed the innocent spirit that was imprisoned within this dark mask.
After claiming Odolwa’s Remains, Link is whisked away to an otherworldly place. A giant being resides here, and it seems to be trying to tell Link something.
Tatl believes that the being is trying to teach Link a song. The lad pulls out his ocarina; play the notes that you’re shown to learn the Oath to Order.
Having taught Link its song, the being departs, uttering two cryptic words: “Call us.” It’s all very confusing, but Tatl soon begins to piece together what has happened. She suspects that this is one of four beings whose aid Link must enlist in order to undo the Skull Kid’s evil and save the land from destruction. If the little Fairy is right (and she often is), then there are three more beings like this one to find.
Truly impressed with Link’s courage and accomplishments, Tatl goes on to apologize for all the trouble that she caused when she first met him in the woods. She’s ready to follow Link anywhere now and advises that they explore Termina’s mountains next. Sounds like a plan.
Rescuing the Deku Princess
When Tatl finishes speaking, you’ll find yourself in a new room of the temple. Slice through the thick nearby vines to free the Deku Princess from captivity.
The Deku Princess is thrilled to be rescued, but her joy doesn’t last long. She’s soon horrified to hear of her father’s treatment of the poor monkey who helped her investigate the temple. She asks that Link find some way to carry her back to the Deku Palace and set things right before it’s too late.
A quick check of the princess’ holding cell shows little of use. How can Link possibly carry the Deku Princess? In an Empty Bottle, of course! Dump out whatever your bottle might be holding, then use it to scoop up the princess. Afterward, head outside to return to Woodfall.
