Recover the Black Box

After a brief ride in the truck, the Ghosts are deployed a few hundred meters away from the airstrip. Before you can make your way to the aircraft, you’ll need to take out the airstrip’s security detail. Creep toward the large hangars until you spot two rifleman walking along a dirt road. Mark both enemies and wait until they walk behind a set of crates before giving the shoot order. As they fall to the ground, the crates hide their bodies from the other hostiles near the hangars.

Now it’s time to deal with the riflemen near the hangars. Creep toward the hangars using the crates and concrete barriers for cover. Getting close allows you to get a better view of the enemies. Tossing a Sensor in between the two hangars makes it easier to identify the locations of these hostiles. There are four riflemen in this area. Two are standing in between the two hangars. The third is located in the hangar on the left and the fourth patrols a catwalk between the two hangars. Mark all four targets and keep an eye on the patrolling rifleman on the catwalk. When he enters the hangar on the right, take aim at any of the targets and give the shoot order. It’s important the enemy on the catwalk is killed within the hangar. Otherwise enemies in the guard towers by the airstrip may see him fall and raise an alert. Shortly after dropping these four enemies, the engines of the cargo plane can be heard starting up—you need to reach the plane before it can take off!

However, don’t let the sound of the plane’s engines make you rush. You still need to neutralize a few more enemies near the airstrip. Move to a position where you can spot both guard towers. There’s a hostile armed with an LMG in each guard tower. Take them out yourself by firing a bullet through each hostile’s head. Otherwise, set up a sync-shot and order your team to clear the two guard towers. With the enemies in the guard towers out of the picture, you can now mop up the remaining hostiles guarding the airstrip.

Weapon Challenge: Overwatch

Criteria: Eliminate ten enemies using a sniper rifle without moving

At the start of this mission, no sniper rifles are available. However, you can find a VSS sniper rifle in the weapon box within the left hangar. Acquiring this weapon allows you to complete the weapon challenge. To complete the challenge, you must kill ten enemies with a sniper rifle. But the key is that you can’t move after taking the first shot. This means you must kill ten enemies from a fixed position. The crash site is the best place to get these kills. When you reach the crash site, don’t kill the first five enemies. Instead, sneak into the crash site by moving around the aircraft’s tail section, taking cover in the trench. From this fixed position you can start racking-up sniper rifle kills as enemy reinforcements arrive. But once you’ve started killing, you can’t move. Otherwise the kill counter resets.

Creep between the two hangars and interact with the ammo crate to stock up on ammo and Sensors. Next, toss a few Sensors in the direction of the airstrip to locate the four remaining hostiles. Mark all four enemies and take them out with a sync-shot. Suddenly, the cargo plane begins moving down the runway. You have no other option—you need to destroy the plane’s engine to prevent it from getting away. Equip your secondary weapon and open fire on the starboard engine. You have exactly 20 seconds to destroy the engine, so don’t waste any time. Keep firing at the engine as the plane moves down the runway. You’ll know you’ve succeeded when the engine erupts in flames. The plane still manages to take off, but it won’t get far. Shortly after takeoff, the plane is seen falling out of the sky. It’s not too late. You can still recover the plane’s black box. Before leaving the airstrip, visit the ammo crate between the two hangars and stock up on ammo and Sensors.
