The Forbidden Oasis lies in the northern stretches of the Western Approach. A mining company from Val Firmin once set up shop in the region but moved on when profits dried up. A mysterious temple lies at the heart of the oasis, but no one has managed to enter it.

The Forbidden Oasis will prove to be a significant location in your quest to save Thedas from the forces of chaos, one that you will return to every so often throughout the game. There aren’t too many quests in this locale, but four of them center around locating all of the shards hidden across all of Thedas and delving deeper into the temple at the center of oasis. If you unlock the Forbidden Oasis as early as possible, you will not be able to open all the doors in the temple until much later, but you can still open some of the doors and enjoy the treasures they guard. Be wary when exploring the tunnel networks throughout the oasis. Giant spiders have made their home here and rank among some of the most dangerous wildlife in the area.
Make sure you have at least one warrior and mage in your party at all times while exploring the oasis. There are walls a warrior can smash through, veilfire torches for mages to light, and bridges a mage can reconstruct. This is a great place to find some shards quickly.
