Titanfall eGuide Introduction

Campaign

Titanfall features a unique multiplayer campaign, further chronicling the conflict between the Militia and IMC. Players can choose to play on either side, resulting in different pre-match briefings and communications chatter during battle. To get the whole story, make an effort to play the campaign as both the Militia and IMC—there’s achievements for completing the campaign as each faction. There are nine campaign matches, consisting of five Attrition matches and four Hardpoint Domination matches. Unlike traditional multiplayer matches, the campaign features a number of scripted events, helping enhance the story. So while engaging the enemy, pay close attention to your surroundings and the radio chatter—your team’s performance on the battlefield impacts the outcome of the story.

The Refueling Raid

The 1st Militia Fleet, desperately low on fuel and on the run from the IMC, prepares to raid an IMC gas mining world. Years of aggressive fuel extraction have taken their toll on this former colony for the privileged. Now on the edge of defeat, the Militia forces must find a way to fight on, despite the loss of their commanding officer in an earlier battle. Meanwhile, unsure as to the exact time and place of the impending Militia refueling raid, IMC forces make defense preparations at several gas mining worlds in the Yuma System.

Team Tactics

Hardpoint Charlie can be neutralized and captured by Titans. Expect some intense Titan duels here.

In this Hardpoint Domination battle, both factions begin with one AI-operated Titan—consider rodeo attacking the enemy team’s Titan to give your side an early advantage. Grunts of the IMC are likely to secure Hardpoint Alpha early during the round while the Militia’s Grunts capture Hardpoint Charlie. This leaves Hardpoint Bravo up for grabs—assault this hardpoint with Arc Grenades and prepare for some close-quarter firefights, as Pilots tend to converge here early on. Hold on to at least two of the hardpoints for the majority of the match to secure a win for your team.

The Colony

Following the Militia’s refueling raid and escape in the Yuma System, the IMC continue their search to eliminate the Militia fleet. The IMC deploys a small unit, led by Blisk, to an uncharted planet on the Frontier, where life signs have been detected. Blisk uses the opportunity to field test a platoon of Spectre automated infantry units on the local populace. The Militia, receiving a distress signal from this world, sends a strike force to investigate. During the battle, communications intercepts reveal that the colony was founded by the crew of the IMS Odyssey, led by James MacAllan. Now, forced out of hiding, MacAllan must once again confront Vice Admiral Graves, his former commanding officer from the Odyssey fifteen years ago.

Team Tactics

Take to the rooftops and ambush enemy Grunts, Spectres, and Titans—but watch for enemy Pilots doing the same thing.

Unlike Hardpoint Domination, Attrition is all about accumulating kills. Regardless of which faction you represent, make a push toward the center of the map and start eliminating Grunts and enemy Pilots as fast as you can—you get one Attrition Point for each Grunt and Spectre you kill, and four Attrition Points for enemy Pilots. Consider attaching a Suppressor to keep your Pilot off the minimap and utilize the various rooftops and second-story windows to maintain the high ground. The more damage you inflict on the enemy, the sooner you get your Titan. Coordinate Titan deployments with your teammates and then roam the map in groups of two or three Titans.

The Odyssey

In exchange for the rescue of his fellow colonists from the forests surrounding the wreckage of the IMS Odyssey, the ex-IMC officer James MacAllan agrees to lead the Militia against the IMC. Despite Sarah’s mistrust of MacAllan, Bish insists that getting the ex-IMC officer’s help is their best chance of defeating the IMC. At the same time, Vice Admiral Graves tracks MacAllan’s signal to its source, and deploys forces to secure the wreck of the IMS Odyssey. During the battle, MacAllan downloads the contents of the Odyssey’s computer core, containing the schematics for Demeter, a critical refueling station linking the Core Systems to the Frontier—destroying Demeter would prevent the IMC from sending reinforcements to the Frontier for years to come.

Team Tactics

While fighting within the ship, use the Active Radar Pulse ability to detect enemy Grunts and Pilots.

This is another Attrition battle, this time set among the wreckage of the IMS Odyssey. Prepare for a mix of close and mid-range combat. Versatile weapons, like the R-101C Carbine, perform well here. While locating enemy minions is easy enough through the use the minimap, consider equipping the Active Radar Pulse Tactical Ability to locate enemy Pilots, including those using suppressed weapons. Eliminating Pilots nets your team more Attrition Points, plus you’ll get your Titan faster. Titan combat on this map can get a bit claustrophobic, particularly inside the ship. Use the ship’s bulkheads for cover, dashing in and out of cover to engage enemy Titans.

Get Barker

IMC informants in Angel City confirm Graves’ suspicions as to MacAllan’s next move. MacAllan is in the city, attempting to extract an ex-IMC pilot named Barker. IMC search parties are deployed, but they soon come under attack from Militia forces, who are attempting to delay the IMC so that MacAllan can get Barker out of the city. While getting Barker out via the city’s sewer tunnels, MacAllan orders Militia fighters to attack an arriving IMC carrier called the Sentinel, despite Sarah’s objections that it’s a suicide mission for the fighter pilots.

Team Tactics

Early on, rodeo attack the opposing team’s AI-controlled Titan to score some easy Attrition Points.

At the start of this battle, the Militia are in the process of sneaking Barker out of Angel City. Each team begins the battle with one AI-controlled Titan. Make it your objective to locate and eliminate the enemy team’s Titan at the start of the battle. This is easily accomplished with a rodeo attack, netting your team five Attrition Points for its destruction. Once you gain access to your Titan, work with friendly Titans to isolate and engage the enemy team’s Titans, picking them off one by one. The urban setting offers plenty of cover for Titans—hold at intersections and use the adjacent buildings for cover, dashing laterally around corners to engage.

Assault on the Sentinel

Although Barker is successfully extracted from Angel City, he is reluctant to help MacAllan unless an IMC carrier, the IMS Sentinel, is destroyed. The Sentinel, according to Barker, is an impassable threat in this sector that must be eliminated before he can be of any help to MacAllan. MacAllan’s gambit to send fighters against the Sentinel during the battle of Angel City now pays off. As part of their plan, the Militia first sends in a large decoy ship to draw fire from the orbital defense cannons, to allow their troop-carrying dropships to infiltrate IMC airspace.

Team Tactics

Hack the turret, then lure enemy Titans toward it—you get credit for any kills it scores.

In this Attrition battle, both teams begin with one AI-controlled Titan—hunt down the opposing team’s Titan to score some quick Attrition Points. But the IMC team also benefits from a turret, positioned near their deployment area. If used wisely, this turret can be the deciding factor in close matches. Both teams should attempt to maintain control of this turret—this requires the Militia team to hack it. With the turret in your team’s control, try to lure enemy Titans toward it—move toward the center of the map, then retreat toward the turret, drawing enemy Titans into its field of fire. Every enemy killed with this turret nets your team Attrition Points—and if you hacked the turret, you get XP for every kill it scores.

Here Be Dragons

Following the elimination of the IMS Sentinel, Barker flies a Militia strike force to an abandoned prototype of a tower designed to repel hostile wildlife. Using knowledge of Frontier war simulations he had developed with MacAllan in the past, Graves predicts MacAllan’s move and sends a strike force to scuttle the tower. During the battle, both sides struggle for control of the generators that route energy to the old tower—the Militia try to operate the tower and analyze its workings, while the IMC attempt to overload and trigger it to self-destruct before the Militia learn too much about it.

Team Tactics

Bring your favorite Anti-Titan weapon to Hardpoint Charlie and prepare for some intense battles.

This is a Hardpoint Domination match, requiring your team to hold a majority of the hardpoints to win. The Militia are likely to take Hardpoint Bravo early on, while the IMC takes Hardpoint Alpha. Hardpoint Charlie can be accessed by enemy Titans, so expect heavy action here—once captured, consider placing Arc Mines at the entrances. While most of the action is focused on the hardpoints, don’t miss the chance to hack the two turrets on this map—any damage dealt by a hacked turret reduces your Titan’s build time. When moving around on foot, make use of the map’s various zip lines to speedily move from one hardpoint to the next.

The Three Towers

IMC reinforcements are about to lift off and crush the Militia fleet approaching Demeter. To even the odds, Sarah leads a surgical attack on the airbase, armed with Bish’s new tower-toppling invention, the “Icepick”. As the battle comes to an end, MacAllan hails Vice Admiral Graves directly on comms, and questions his old friend’s efforts to change the IMC from within, but the Vice Admiral dismisses MacAllan’s remarks and terminates the connection.

Team Tactics

Doom the enemy’s AI-controlled Titans in the hangar to secure an early lead.

At the start of this Attrition battle, each faction begins with two AI-controlled Titans. Chances are these four Titans will meet and battle in the large hangar. Assist your team’s Titans in this early battle, lobbing Arc Grenades and firing your Anti-Titan weapon from a distance. You can even rodeo attack one of the Titans to secure the kill for your team—each Titan killed is worth five Attrition Points. Once the enemy’s two AI-controlled Titans are down, make your way to the turret on the west side of the map and hack it. Once your team holds the turret, try to lure enemy Titans toward it to gain an upper hand in Titan battles. Holding this turret may be enough to tilt the odds in your team’s favor.

The Battle of Demeter

The Militia forces attack Demeter—the key refueling link that allows travel between the IMC’s Core Systems and the Frontier. While his forces fight to start a devastating chain reaction that will wipe out the refueling facilities at Demeter, MacAllan plays out his endgame with Vice Admiral Graves. Again, MacAllan questions Graves’ actions as a Vice Admiral in the IMC. He reminds Graves that fifteen years ago, Graves allowed him to desert with the Odyssey—not under the duress of a mutiny, but in an act of compassion to a friend burned out on war. In the end, MacAllan offers the Vice Admiral one last chance to redeem himself, and to change the fate of the Frontier, against all the bloodshed under his command.

Team Tactics

Once captured, consider posting two Titans at Hardpoint Bravo—this is the battle’s most contentious hot spot.

In this Hardpoint Domination battle, the Militia deploys near Hardpoint Charlie while the IMC arrives near Hardpoint Alpha. Grunts and Spectres on both teams can usually capture these two hardpoints on their own, so Pilots should make an early round move toward Hardpoint Bravo. Accessible by both Titans and infantry, expect Hardpoint Bravo to be a major point of contention throughout the battle. Instead of taking heavy losses at Hardpoint Bravo, consider simply locking down Hardpoints Alpha and Charlie to hold out for a win. The turrets on the south side of the map cannot be hacked, so don’t waste time trying to secure them. Instead, stay focused on the hardpoints. At the end of the battle, there is no Epilogue. Simply stay alive and rack up as many kills as possible.

Made Men

Graves defects to the Militia. Three months later, under his command, the Militia takes the fight to the IMC, striking at the first of many IMC robotics production facilities. Cut off from reinforcements following the destruction of Demeter, the IMC on the Frontier are increasingly dependent on automated infantry. Now, the hunters have become the hunted, and the IMC forces must fight to preserve their replication facilities on the Frontier. The fate of the Frontier remains uncertain, but for now, the Militia holds the upper hand.

Team Tactics

Most Titan battles occur at Hardpoint Bravo. Make sure you have backup.

At the start of this final battle, the IMC usually takes control of Hardpoint Alpha while the Militia makes a move for Hardpoints Bravo or Charlie. When hardpoints are captured on this map, Spectres emerge from the adjoining walls, serving as automated sentries for the capturing team. So when assaulting an enemy hardpoint, expect stiff resistance from enemy Spectres. Begin your attack by tossing an Arc Grenade toward the objective—one Arc Grenade is usually enough to wipe out most of the defending Spectres. Hardpoint Bravo is accessible by infantry and Titans, so expect plenty of activity here—Arc Grenades and Arc Mines work well when defending this location.
