Sunset Overdrive Official Strategy Guide Quests ACT 3

Boat Upgrade

Harbor, Little TokyoPrerequisites: Complete “Bad Medicine”

As in Old Factory District and Little Tokyo, give Floyd enough time and he’ll set up a base. Once he appropriates a boat as a new fort in the Harbor, he’ll be ready for another Night Defense Mission. Before you get to that though, you can increase the Vats capacity and earn some Cash and Overcharge too. Floyd would like some surplus Overcharge to help run the ship’s engines. And it just so happens that Sam knows where some extra-large barrels of Overcharge are lying around. If you could find a truck, you could tool around Harbor and pick up all the barrels.

You’re probably getting used to Sam covering the technical details by now. He has a truck lined up; you just have to go get it. Catch the main road heading north and you’ll find it. Sam has attached one of those Fizzco controllers to the truck, so Sam can drive it remotely from barrel harvesting spot to barrel harvesting spot. While the truck is in transit between spots, you can either ride on it or keep up with it with your normal arsenal of traversal tricks.

The first barrel Sam has located is just west of where you find the truck, on a rear ledge. How can Sam locate them? It turns out the Fizzco GPS-chipped all their Overcharge shipments, which means they put more foresight into distribution than into product testing. When you pick it up and start carrying it back to the truck, the same rules apply as when carrying cases of water or Bushido Troop Masters: your traversal moves all work as normal, but you cannot fire weapons. Haul the barrel back to the truck and toss it into the back.

After each barrel is collected, Sam will drive the truck a little up the road, closer to the next barrel’s location. The second barrel is found deep in the amusement park to the northeast. The amusement park is full of goofy, fun things to do in addition to grabbing the barrel. You can interact with different rides and amusements in various ways, some of them with enemy-rending consequences. There’s a Pandora’s Box Trap set up here, well in advance of when you can actually get that Trap for your own regular use. It’s great fun backing yourself up with an invincible gnome army a little early. There are both Scabs and OD around here, so set off Pandora, stay in motion, and watch your back.

The third barrel is found on a rooftop deck south of the truck’s position. This deck is lively with mutated guests. Considering that this Quest boosts your effectiveness for the “Ferry to Nowhere” Mission, you can use the combat opportunities here to level up any weapons that will be important to the coming Night Defense.

The barrel here is on top of a skybridge between buildings, and some OD are feasting off the barrel’s seepage. Vault onto this walkway and abscond with the barrel, depriving the OD of their meal. This journey back to the truck is the shortest of the entire task, but OD and Fizzbots here will keep you moving quickly regardless.

After a brief detour out of Harbor, Sam cuts back to another barrel’s position on the way home. The final barrel is near the water in the industrial waterfront, where copious Scabs occupy the high-value property. If you don’t clear them out ahead of nabbing the last barrel, you’ll have their full attention as you carry the barrel back to the truck. If you stay grinding, you’ll avoid Scab Shooters, so just watch out for the telltale red reticles of Scab Tosser mines.

This is the third of four Vat upgrade Quests; one new upgrade Quest appears in each Act. After all four are completed, you’ll unlock an Achievement, in addition to having maxed Night Defense Vats at all locations.
