Sunset Overdrive Official Strategy Guide Missions ACT 4

4-3: Getting the Band Back Together

Downtown, Little Tokyo, Harbor

Still after a way to impress Las Catrinas and uncover more Fizzco HQ secrets, your hero stumbles upon the perfect solution: put on a once-in-a-lifetime rock concert to raise the spirits of Las Catrinas’ sick kids. It seems so obvious, now that the plan is laid out. All you need is a band. Luckily, a few of the post-apocalyptic survivors you’ve met also happen to be fledgling musicians. And there may yet be room for surprise guest appearances.

The first position to recruit is bassist. Wendy the Anachronizer, Fargarthian blacksmith gone bard gone pirate gone who knows, is an ideal candidate. She can be found in her boat just offshore where Little Tokyo and the Harbor meet. This is just south across the water from the hospital. Wendy is happy to help, but she’ll need you to tow her boat east into Harbor’s marina first. This must be done by latching harpoons two at a time to her boat, so it’s slowly dragged toward the dock.

OD will be attracted to your activity and swarm the piers in large numbers. You’ll have to keep them off the harpoon lines or the OD can break them, halting Wendy’s progress. Besides your normal array of street-level OD, you’ll also have a Winger to contend with as Wendy approaches the dock. The Winger can launch Flobbers in addition to its grind-limiting flame spouts. Flobbers are snarling puffballs that home in on your hero in midair. Hold off the various OD types and continue latching harpoons to Wendy’s boat to pull her in to the dock. Once you’ve towed her boat all the way, you will still have to clear the dock of OD before she’ll disembark. With the boat pulled in and the dock clear, Wendy is ready to go rehearse for the big show. Now you need a drummer…

In addition to everything else she does, 4Kim also drums. She can be found outside very near to the spot where you first hollered at Wendy in her boat. 4Kim is also happy to play, but she needs a drum kit. There just so happens to be one across the street to the north, in a truck parked in that lot. Opening the truck to get the drums also alerts a horde of nearby OD, though.

The taiko drums placed strategically around the complex here will be just the thing to take them out. At first, to trigger their resonance, you must bounce from the first taiko drum to another taiko drum without touching the ground, then dive bomb the taiko drum. You can bounce off cars and umbrellas and other bounce-able objects, but if you touch terra firma, the drums lose their chain. You must initially trigger a taiko drum dive bomb with two drums, then with all 10 together. Again, if bouncing between all 10 taiko drums without touching the ground sounds hard, remember that you can bounce between intermediary objects like cars too. There are basically sheer walls of OD here, but don’t worry about them; focus on lighting up all the taiko drums before a dive bomb that smashes all the OD at once. With the OD cleared out and drums acquired, you’ve got your drummer secured. Now, how about a guitarist and vocalist?

Besides a drummer and a bassist, what else do you need? Oh, that’s right, lead guitar and vocals. That might seem like a tall order to fill, but it could be that there’s a rock God coincidentally taking shelter at a club Downtown. If they can’t leave the city anyway, they might as well play a charity gig! Go proposition the musician and enjoy this Mission’s big Cash and Overcharge bounty (not to mention a spiffy new minethrower).

Two new Challenges open after “Getting the Band Back Together”: Bomb Delivery #8 and Weapon Challenge: Charge Beam, as well as the “Theater Upgrade” quest. You’ll add yet another excellent deployable to your arsenal in the Pulse Mine, which will be useful immediately during the next Night Defense.
