Little Tokyo, Old Factory District
Travel to Hepcat’s Diner in north Little Tokyo; any further north and you’re in Downtown. Calista and Two Hat Jack are here, so you can change your style or update weapons. Sam is waiting to tell you that 4Kim left for the raised train platform just to the south. She saw smoke signals that she thought might be Bryllcream’s. Head into the train station on ground level to try to meet with 4Kim on the way up.
Of course, like almost any upright structure in Sunset City, the station has been occupied by Scabs. Fight through them while moving south through the station. The commotion you make moving around will actually cause 4Kim to contact you, thanking you for the distraction. She’s making a break for the raised train platform—she sees the Scabs boarding and doesn’t want to miss a chance to rescue her mentor. You’ll have to find a quick way up to the train platform to meet her.
Satellite drums on a radar dish give you steps to bounce upward, catching a yellow grind line up to the raised train platform.
You’re just late arriving, and a group of Scabs shove 4Kim aboard the train and flee. As the train pulls away, you can already see how this is going to be: there are rocket pods installed on the back of it. Hop onto the rail and grind after the train as fast as you can.
The train will periodically blow out a section of the track behind it, forcing you to go off the rails. In each instance, there are nearby walls, ledges, or wires that allow you to continue after the train. Apart from the train’s proximity mines, you’ll also have to watch out for OD in places; they’re swarming all over the southern rail bridge over the water, they’re along the boarding deck of Old Factory District’s train platform, and they’re also all over the bridge to the north. Don’t fight them, but do avoid them, since taking needless hits from OD or slowing down to fight them cuts into precious thruster-busting time.
Whenever you get into range, open fire on the rear thrusters. Each train car has a pair of thrusters, and there are three train cars to destroy in order to stop the train. You must destroy three pairs of thrusters before the train makes it to the northeast end of north bridge; here, the Scabs can detonate a roadblock that ensures you cannot follow, meaning they escape with 4Kim and that’s all she wrote. Stay after the train with aggressive grinding, boosting, and air dashing, and keep a steady stream on the rear thrusters with a weapon like Roman Candle. Should you run low on ammo, you’ll frequently grind past red ammo boxes on little platforms joining the train rails; merely melee swipe while grinding and an ammo refill is yours.
Rewards
Put the brakes on the train and save 4Kim (though she hardly seems to need it) to unlock two Quests: “Fizzco: The Dirty Secret,” and “Hepcat’s Upgrade.” The Upgrade Quest in particular directly translates into the next Mission being easier. “Find 4Kim” also unlocks Glider Challenge #2 and Traversal Challenge #8. If you still haven’t purchased Acid Sprinkler, Turret Copter, or Proximity Mine from Two Hat Jack, now is a really good time to do that.
