Sunset Overdrive Official Strategy Guide Missions ACT 1

1-11: Midnight Brew (Night Defense)

Old Factory District

Sam and his friends will need a little time before the propeller is ready. In the meantime, Floyd’s Vat is prepped for another major Amp cookout at the brewery. He’ll need a bit of raw material: five Fizzie Balloons. Round up the required balloons (if you’ve kept an eye out for collectibles at all so far, you probably already have enough), then head to Floyd’s place.

Check with Two Hat Jack before starting up the defense if your weapons aren’t up to date; in particular, it won’t hurt to have Acid Sprinkler handy for a defense-oriented Mission. Once you’re ready to start, Floyd will begin by allowing you to place your own Traps for the first time. So far, you just have the Fling Board Trap and the Hack ‘n Slay Trap. The Fling Board Trap can be used not only to repel enemies from predictable paths of approach but also to toss them directly into other Traps. Before a Night Defense event, you have time to adjust Traps to your liking, up to the maximum allowed by the fort’s power supply.

As with the earlier Night Defense (and any Chaos Squad you might’ve played), the goal is to keep the OD’s grubby mitts off of the cooking Vats for the duration of the event. This instance has more enemies (and tougher ones) than your first Night Defense attempt, but this time you also have stronger guns and more experience, as well as Traps and whatever Overdrives you’ve equipped. Watch out for Gunkers, which show up for the first time partway through the assault. Gunkers are frigid blue OD who can place ice balls along your traversal paths, ruining your planned grinding routes. Gunkers themselves explode into a freezing mist upon death, so take advantage of their proximity to other OD when gunning them down. You’ll also have Poppers, Blowers, and Herkers to contend with. Don’t get too lost in the trance of grinding around while shooting at hundreds of OD; keep an eye on your minimap so you’re aware of enemy clusters arriving from unexpected directions along with any attacks on barricades or the Vat.
