Sunset Overdrive Official Strategy Guide Missions ACT 1

1-7: Bora Bora Water

District Location (Old Factory, Little Tokyo, Harbor, or Downtown)

Start by initiating a dialog with Dirk inside Sasquatch and Friends, which really just starts a conversation with Sam; Dirk is too busy texting. Sam explains that Dirk is super-cool and very in the know aerodynamically-speaking, but that he requires the proper motivation to help with tracking down a new propeller. This motivation will come in the form of name-brand bottled water, found at the Bora Bora Water Facility in south-central Old Factory District. Before you think less of Dirk, remember the paramount importance of proper hydration.

Once you arrive at the Bora Bora Water Facility, you’ll find that it’s not as simple as grabbing some pure water to go, because the plant is contaminated with filth. You’ll have to flush the waste in order to acquire pure Bora Bora Water. Flushing the waste is done in stages, by first triggering an emergency flush sequence then destroying three safety valves along the path to a pressure-release button. You’ll have to do this multiple times to drain enough waste to access the lower, currently-flooded levels of the plant.

With the first emergency flush sequence complete, you’ll uncover another flush sequence further down, on a freshly-drained floor. Descend to the new valve and start another sequence. This one requires traversal between multiple pipes for you to smack all the safety valves before triggering the pressure release button up high. A lower level of the plant is revealed, with another flush sequence down there.

You’ll arrive on the lowest level to discover that the final flush sequence is offline until the OD swarm down here is eliminated. But where are the OD down here coming from? Meet the Spawner, another huge “boss” type like the Herker. A Spawner isn’t as physically tough as a Herker, but it’s fast and careful, retreating at low health, and smaller OD climb constantly out of the dumpster attached to its back. Spawners share the same susceptibilities as Herkers, so the fastest way to take one down at this stage of the game is to either light it on fire with the Flaming Compensator or freeze it solid with the Freeze Bomb before swapping to Dirty Harry to finish it off. Reapply fire or ice as needed when they wear off, and focus on the Spawner over the minor enemies that emerge from it; you can clean up whatever mess the Spawner made after it’s dead.

With the Spawner pushed down, you can trigger the final flushing sequence. This grind path twists upward and to the right, requiring you to vault and bounce upward after each safety valve is broken. Jump atop the final pressure release button to finish purging the plant. A newly active switch is revealed back near where you fought the Spawner on the lowest level. Travel back down to trigger the switch and you’ll open up a supply of fresh, pristine Bora Bora Water. Grab a case of it and head back to Sasquatch and Friends to the north. You can’t attack while lugging a case of bottled water, but all of your traversal moves still function. Avoid the swarming OD by grinding, bouncing, and boosting all the way back to the Oxfords’ hideout. Dirk may be a bit of a self-absorbed tool, but with his precious water back in hand (and in belly), he’s at least now a useful tool.
