Little Tokyo
While 4Kim and company regroup in the search for Bryllcream, Floyd has fixed up Hepcat’s Diner as a new player fort. For the low fee of five rolls of Toilet Paper, he’s ready to rock and roll with another Night Defense Mission. You can make this Mission a little easier by first completing the “Hepcat’s Upgrade” Quest, which increases the Vat capacity and thus your margin for error.
This location has two Vats, rather than the single Vat back at the brewery. Both Vats need to be protected, as they pull from a single pool of Overcharge. Each Vat has two barricades protecting it, for four barricades you’ll want to reinforce with Traps. Just about any Trap can be good, if you place Traps wisely and back them up. For example, if you’re placing J-Ya Gun Turret Traps, you might focus on throwing out Acid Sprinklers and Freeze Bomb rounds yourself. If you’re using Señor Freeze Traps, you’ll want to use hard-hitting primary weapons that will shatter groups of frozen OD.
You will also want to place Traps with your movement in mind; Amps like Pyro Geyser or Señor Freeze can also be thought of as customizable bounce pads. You can also set up Fling Board Traps so that hurled enemies will keep bounce-activated Traps spewing without your attention.
If you use the Bounce-Splosion Epic Amp and keep your Style level over 3, you’ll have explosive bounces in addition to the Trap’s normal action. On the other hand, the Fi-Yah! Epic Amp works wonderfully as you grind above enemies on this relatively small arena, and you’ll naturally burn up many OD simply grinding above them. You won’t go wrong exploiting either Amp in concert with your Trap strategy. However you place them, you should definitely expend the fort’s full energy stock in Trap placement, select a varied complement of guns on your weapon wheel, then turn the valve to trigger the onslaught.
The enemy can assault your Vats from more angles than at the brewery, but you can see the whole area from any grind or bounce location here. This makes it relatively easy to keep tabs on the really big enemy clusters. You’ll have to survive with at least something in the Vats for four minutes. You can’t go wrong keeping deployables active, and weapons like Freeze Bomb, The Dude, and TNTeddy remain fantastic against groups of squishy OD. There will be Blowers to contend with as well, so keep some sort of ranged weapon handy. Herkers and Spawners will both show up, even together. Between waves, check out your Trap situation. If some have been destroyed, set some new Traps up very quickly; you don’t have much time at all before the next wave of OD begins.
