Boss Battle: Argul

Boss Battle: Argul

This towering skeleton is known as the Deposed King, and it wields a massive mace that’s capable of freezing Death cold in his tracks. Slaying Argul will advance one of Thane’s side quests and earn you an excellent weapon, but the task is easier said than done.

Argul commonly lashes out with his giant mace, attempting to crush the Reaper with a single blow. Circle around the Deposed King to avoid this lethal strike, and then counter with a devastating combo when his mace becomes stuck in the ground.

Caution

Don’t attack Argul unless his mace is stuck; he’s good at blocking your strikes with his shield and countering with a punishing shield bump.

If Argul’s mace doesn’t become stuck, then beware: he’ll quickly follow-up with a second strike. Evade again to avoid this second blow and wait for your chance to counter when the Deposed King’s mace becomes lodged in the ground.

Caution

Being struck by Argul’s mace may cause Death to become frozen solid, setting him up for further unpleasantness. Rapidly tap the Action button to break free of the ice before the Deposed King can capitalize on the Rider’s immobility.

Sometimes Argul will slam his shield into the ground and then rush forward a short distance in an effort to ram you. Either backflip away from this attack or evade in a circle around it. Again, don’t counter—wait for Argul’s mace to become stuck.

After suffering significant damage, Argul adds a new attack: he spins around and races toward Death with lethal intent. Tap the Evade trigger three times to perform a trio of backflips and ensure you avoid this far-reaching assault. Continue the game of cat-and-mouse against the Deposed King until he finally falls and his exceptional weapon becomes yours.
