Shoulder Throw: A standard forward throw in which Ryu tosses the opponent about a sweep’s distance away. A successful Shoulder Throw nets you enough advantage to connect with a meaty crouching attack, assuming the enemy quick-rises. You can also follow up the throw with a forward dash, but this leaves Ryu at -2 at the end of his dash, sacrificing advantage. Against an astute adversary, you may be interrupted out of your attack if you attempt a forward throw into a dash-in sequence.

Somersault Throw: Ryu hurls the opponent across the screen, completely resetting the neutral game advantage. You won’t get any kind of guaranteed follow-up, so Somersault Throw is best used as a defensive tool when Ryu’s back is against the wall and you want to quickly corner the enemy. You’ll normally want to follow up your back throw with Hadoken. Although you don’t get guaranteed chip damage from a meaty fireball, you’ll at least put some tempo into play, forcing your challenger to deal with it.
