Street Fighter V eGuide Fighters Birdie

Overview

Pros
  • Birdie has great pokes and a varied arsenal overall.
  • He has enormous range and damage.
  • His cross-up jumping is great.
  • His V-Trigger functions as both a SFIV-like “Focus Attack dash cancel” and a long-lasting and scary power-up state.
  • He has a nearly full screen grab range.
Cons
  • Birdie is the game’s biggest target for opponents (though, like Zangief, at least he has stamina, stun, and damage output to match his bulk).
  • He has short-traveling jumps, with mediocre jumping attacks.
  • His movement is very sluggish, though Enjoy Time compensates while it’s active.
  • He has no low hit-check combos.

One of Street Fighter’s literal original gangsters returns a quarter-century later, having taken up recreational eating rather recently. This much more rotund Birdie just means there’s more to love. Birdie is SFV’s long-range, zoning grappler. His long pokes, great anti-airs, variable V-Skills, and Hanging Chain hit-grabs allow him to harass the opposition from mid to long range, while his leaping Bull Revenger command grab means sudden direct offense is never off the table. And with the adversary held at bay and Birdie’s burgers, bananas, and beverages littering the scene, you’ll build toward Enjoy Time, one of the game’s strongest and longest-lasting V-Triggers.

Your objective with Birdie is to hold back the enemy at mid range, building V-Gauge when possible. Achieve this by:

  • Shooting the foe down with Birdie’s huge arsenal of ground-to-air strikes when pressured from the air, most notably crouching , the first hit of Bull Drop, crouching , Bull Horn, and HK Hanging Chain
  • Poking at your adversary on the ground at mid range with Birdie’s long-reaching normals and specials, like standing , standing , and horizontal Hanging Chains
  • Countering opposing zoning attempts with Birdie’s wide anti-projectile selection, like Bull Slider, Bull Charge, Bull Horn, and EX Hanging Chain
  • Using various gauge-building V-Skill moves where appropriate to aid zoning (Drink Time), defense (Banana Time), or appetite (Break Time)
