Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Guide › Wumpa Island

Ripper Roo

At the top of the waterfall on Wumpa Island, you face the first of two bosses. Ripper Roo is one insane marsupial and wants to stomp on you. To get to the next level, you must outsmart and defeat him.

The battle area where you face off against Ripper Roo consists of nine stone platforms. Ripper Roo jumps to nearby platforms; keep in mind that his move set includes diagonal jumps. He takes a short hop and faces where he’s going before he jumps—use that warning to move so he doesn’t hit you. You can’t damage this boss by jumping on him or hitting him with spin attacks.

TNT boxes float down the streams between the platforms. They stop next to each row for a bit before moving on. Jump on a TNT box to activate it, then jump away. Also avoid the platforms adjacent to the box when it explodes, or you lose a life.

Time your activations so the boxes explode while they’re in the center row. This increases your chances of hitting Ripper Roo. Do this three times without losing a life to defeat the boss. When you lose a life, Ripper Roo’s health resets to the maximum amount.

There are spaces to the sides of the level where Ripper Roo can’t get you—next to the pillars with flames on top. Jump over to those locations to escape the boss or to hide out while waiting for a TNT box to explode. A good tactic is to activate a box on that side of the area, then hide in the central side spot to lure Ripper Roo toward you and the TNT box. Once you get the hang of how Ripper Roo moves and the use of the safe spots, this battle becomes easier. Defeating this boss earns you the “Ripper Ruined” award.
