Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy eGuide Cortex Island

Castle Machinery

Rewards: Clear Gem—destroy all 27 boxes.

This level takes place in a factory-like setting. Expect to avoid a lot of hot pipes and robots. There are no bonus stages here, so simply destroy all of the boxes and get to the exit portal.

At the start, you may wonder where you can go. Move right and drop down the shaft to a lower area. Don’t worry, you don’t lose a life. Head left, and prepare to jump over cold pipes and deal with robot turtles and surveillance robots. Time your movements past spiky robots, then jump across floating platforms to reach a walkway. Jump up some steps to come to an elevator platform.

Ride the platform up to a second one. Walk across, then keep going up. Be ready to walk left to the third platform before you run into a hot pipe above you. Ride it to the top, then jump across to a walkway on the right. Smash some boxes and grab a mask.

Jump across to some conveyor belts. Jump over cold and hot pipes. Ride the conveyor belts to the end, then drop to the next belt. Spin-attack or avoid patrolling surveillance robots. At the bottom, jump over hot pipes and onto a walkway with a checkpoint.

Watch for a spiky robot, and time your jump over to an elevator platform. Ride it up, then get to another one. Repeat this pattern, and avoid hot pipes. Some are very close, so walk directly off one platform and onto another. If you jump, you hit the pipes. The last elevator platform takes you up to a walkway with a mask and an extra life.

Jump over a hot pipe. To get over four pipes in a row, jump onto a turtle robot and immediately jump right. When you come to a yellow bounce platform, jump up to collect some Wumpa fruit. Move right and use another yellow bounce platform to get up to a higher walkway with six boxes of fruit. Then walk off the edge on the right to drop to a lower area.

Head right, down some steps, and avoid the next yellow bounce platform—it’ll bounce you into a hot pipe. Keep going, and when you reach a place with four of these yellow platforms, bounce up to collect more fruit and reach a higher walkway. Continue to a checkpoint. Get onto a conveyor belt and jump over hot pipes. Ride it to the end and drop to the next belt. Avoid a spiky robot, then drop down to the next challenge.

There are a lot of wooden boxes floating out over a gap. You need to get all of them. There’s a trick to do this without falling. Jump across the top and only hit about every other box. Then go back and get all of the remaining top row as you return to the left. Drop to the lower row and jump across them to reach the walkway on the right. You also earn four extra lives for your efforts.

Continue right. Ride a conveyor belt and jump across hot pipes until you can jump over to an elevator platform. Jump to other elevator platforms. Watch out for surveillance robots. It’s easier to defeat them with spin attacks than to avoid them. At the top, jump over a hot pipe and cross a series of steam vents. The key is to jump on one as soon as it closes. Then jump to the next when it closes. Deal with one vent at a time to avoid getting burned. Jump quickly since, when one closes, the adjacent vents open.

Jump onto a platform that moves left. As it goes under pipes, you must jump over them and then land on the platform. A turtle robot is on the last hot pipes. Jump onto the robot and then over to the left to land on the platform. From there, jump to the portal to exit the level.

Time Requirements

Sapphire: 3:15:00

Gold: 2:37:61

Platinum: 2:09:89

Once you play this level, you get a good idea of what to expect. The jumps don’t require extremely precise timing, and once you know the sequence of such traps as the steam vents, you can get across them quickly and safely. Only go after time boxes and masks. Don’t waste time on the yellow bounce platforms if you don’t need to—use them to reach higher walkways, but not to gather fruit. Keep moving as much as you can, and use spin attacks on surveillance robots instead of waiting for them to get out of your way.
