You’ve finally caught up with Dr. Neo Cortex. It’s up to you to put an end to Dr. Cortex and Uka Uka’s evil plans for world domination! During this battle, Dr. Cortex is protected by an invulnerability shield until you avoid three of his slow-moving energy orbs and a bunch of land mines he throws out.
During the first phase, Aku Aku and Uka Uka are dueling for supremacy by shooting beams of power at each other. They rotate all over the arena floor, and it’s necessary for you to avoid them by jumping over the beams or moving around them. While this is happening, Dr. Cortex is firing orbs at you. After you avoid all of these attacks, Dr. Cortex begins tossing out land mines. After he drops the fourth land mine, his invulnerability shield shorts out, giving you an opportunity to attack!
Attack Dr. Cortex while his shield is down, and he’s knocked to the floor. Aku Aku and Uka Uka break apart at this point, and the trap door in the middle opens up. Position Dr. Cortex between you and the hole, and perform a spin attack to knock him closer to it. Repeat this until you knock him into the hole, damaging him. You must be quick, because if it takes too long, he jumps back on his hoverboard and becomes invulnerable again.
During the second phase, Dr. Cortex’s attacks remain the same, and Aku Aku and Uka Uka are at it again. This time they create a vortex as they battle and spin around the arena. Keep moving around them while watching for Dr. Cortex’s attacks. Once he’s stunned from the land mines he deploys, knock him into the hole again to trigger the third phase.
The third and final phase is exactly the same as the second phase, except for one thing. Aku Aku and Uka Uka now slam violently and repeatedly into each other while flying around the arena, then drop to the floor, spinning wildly until they fly apart. This makes finding a safe location much harder, but it can be done as long as you maintain as much distance as possible from them. Once Dr. Cortex stuns himself again, knock him into the hole for the final time. Defeating Dr. Cortex and Uka Uka grants you your final ability—the Speed Shoes!
Now it’s time to sit back, relax, and watch the conclusion of this story. With the Speed Shoes, go back and tackle any time trials that gave you trouble. Additionally, if you come back after completing at least 100% of the game, you get to see a new ending to this amazing adventure!
