Rewards: Clear Gem 1—smash all 74 boxes (Blue Gem required to get all of the boxes). Clear Gem 2—finish the level before the timer runs out.
You can earn two Clear Gems in this level. While it’s possible to claim both on one playthrough, that means worrying about collecting every box while simultaneously trying to beat the clock. It’s easier to tackle each challenge separately. Also note that this is a water level. Don’t touch the water, or you automatically lose a life.
As you start the level, move along stone platforms. Jump across a gap, then follow the platforms along the river and up the side of a waterfall. Watch out for round pillars in the water. They drop, so don’t jump onto them. Make long jumps to cross to the next platforms. Keep going until you reach the checkpoint.
As the stone walkway changes to wood, hop onto a surfboard. Maneuver back and forth to pick up all of the boxes, then dodge the mines and whirlpools until you reach the next dock with a checkpoint. It takes practice to move on the surfboard. Follow the stone walkway to a “?” circle. Ride it up to the bonus stage.
You must now jump onto the backs of hippos to cross gaps. Be sure to collect the crystal. Hit the checkpoint, then ride a surfboard through another section of the river. You have to take some jumps to get a box and over a wall—time it so you don’t land on the mines that move back and forth. Get past a carnivorous plant to reach the Clear Gem, if you’ve met the requirements, and the portal to exit the level.
Time Trial
Time Requirements
Sapphire: 1:20:00
Gold: 1:02:93
Platinum: 0:56:24
If you’ve earned the second Clear Gem, this time trial isn’t too difficult. There aren’t many time boxes, so the key is to reach the end while ignoring any other boxes. Be careful of the mines while riding the surfboard, since they can sink your attempt.
