You’ve finally reached the last boss of the game! Dr. Neo Cortex fires his energy gun at you. There are three colors of energy balls. Purple balls travel in a straight line directly at you—jump out of the way. Blue balls are shot first at the sides of the screen, then move across. Those on the right move low and to the left. Blue balls shot to the left move high and to the right. Green balls are shot near the center. They can kill you if they hit you. However, they’re the only ones you can hit back toward Cortex with a spin attack.
For the first round, Cortex shoots two purple balls, then a green. Hit the green back to inflict one damage on him. Now he fires purple, blue, purple, blue, blue, green, and green. Send two green balls back to score the second hit.
For the third round, Cortex fires several balls before he sends out green. This is followed by more blues and purples before two more greens. Send back three green balls to score the third hit. The fourth hit is quicker. Cortex fires off several purples, followed by a green. Dodge the purples and hit the green. Two green balls inflict the damage this time. Finally, hit back the first green he fires to defeat him. For your efforts, you earn the “Cortex N. Capacitated” award.
