Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Guide › Cortex Island

Generator Room

Rewards: Orange Gem—smash all 52 boxes without losing a life.

This level is similar to Temple Ruins. You’re inside a building and jumping from platform to platform, where it’s easy to fall and lose a life. Rushing through this level can use up a lot of Crash’s lives, so until you know it well, take your time and watch the rhythms and patterns of the threats.

Stock up on fruit at the start, then advance. Jump up and perform a spin attack to hit a wooden box, then move back while a TNT box detonates. Jump across a couple of small platforms, avoiding surveillance robots that fly around between them, and mount a platform with some boxes. Spin-attack a wooden box, then jump back to the previous platform until the TNT box explodes. Time your jump through the iron boxes so the bouncing one doesn’t hit you.

Continue right, jumping across platforms and avoiding robots. When you reach a platform that falls, jump over to activate a switch. Wait for another platform to drop, then jump to it, then to the right before it drops. Grab the first Tawna icon from a crate at a corner, then continue to a bridge of boxes. Walk across to a cluster of boxes. Quickly smash them for two extra lives before this platform drops, then bounce across the bridge, destroying the wooden boxes as you go. Continue across a couple of more small platforms to reach the first checkpoint.

Time your jump onto and off a floating platform so you avoid the surveillance robot flying around it. The second Tawna icon is in a box on the next platform. Keep going left and then forward, jumping to platforms, some of which move up and down. Avoid threats and keep advancing to grab the third Tawna icon near the portal. Now that you have all three, enter the activated portal.

Tawna Bonus Stage

This is a fairly easy bonus stage where you can quickly get a couple of extra lives. Bounce across eight boxes and get to the other side to complete this stage.

Upon returning to the level, grab a mask and jump across to a series of platforms that rise and lower. Avoid two spiky robots along the way. Continue until you reach a stable platform with a stack of boxes. Perform a spin attack to destroy a lower box so you can jump up onto the fruit box and bounce on it. Not only do you gain Wumpa fruit, you bounce up and hit a hidden extra life off-screen. Get past surveillance robots, then mount a moving platform that carries you to the next area.

Jump across small platforms until you reach the next checkpoint, then jump to a larger platform with numerous boxes. Don’t get hit by the spiky robot as you jump. The boxes contain an extra life and lots of fruit. To avoid destroying any fruit, only spin-attack a high box, then jump on the rest. Jump across to a dropping platform, then a stable platform while avoiding two more spiky robots.

Hop up a series of falling platforms to reach one that carries you across to the right. Jump over to a platform with a stack of boxes. Jump up and spin-attack as you come down so you only hit the wooden box in the middle of two TNT boxes. Then jump across to the right to escape the explosion. Follow a walkway to the right and down a ramp, avoiding surveillance robots along the way.

Jump to a moving platform that carries you to a hot tube. Move to the right of the platform, then jump over the tube as the platform slides underneath it. Keep going, and jump over two cool tubes while riding a platform. These are tougher since you’re moving away instead of to the side. However, you can land on these cool tubes and then drop to the platform. Once you get past these, continue to a larger platform with the final boxes filled with extra lives. Go through the door to reach the exit portal and finish the level.

Time Trial

Time Requirements

Sapphire: 1:22:.00

Gold: 1:08:37

Platinum: 0:59:72

This is a tough level when you’re taking your time, so it’s even harder when you’re rushing! Don’t worry about hitting the switch since you’re only after time boxes. Expect to slow down and wait at times to get past flying robots, or for platforms to move into position. Pick up masks, and keep moving as much as possible.

Orange Gem

This level lets you earn a colored gem instead of a Clear Gem. However, not only do you have to destroy all the boxes, you have to reach the end without losing a life. That’s where the Aku Aku Masks come in handy. Once you have the Orange Gem, you can access hidden areas in the Upstream level on the first island.
