Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Guide › Medieval Location

Bone Yard

Rewards: 2 Clear Gems—destroy all 66 boxes, Red Gem required.

Get ready for some prehistoric fun! Move toward the screen and break the first box before dropping to the lower level to find three more boxes. Break them open and continue on to encounter a dinosaur emerging from the area where you dropped down. If you’ve played through the first two games in this trilogy, you’ve had some practice at running away. Put it to use here so you don’t become dino chow!

Stay to the right (your right, not Crash’s right) as you run across the first tar pit. Pass the lava and jump over the log. Stay to your left to avoid the lava on the right. Once you pass it, swing right to avoid lava to the left. Break the next two boxes, noting that one of them is a slot box. Drop to the lower level, where you get a break from being chased by the dinosaur.

Break all the boxes you see down here, including one that reveals a checkpoint. Forge ahead through the tar, and the dino is back to try to make you its snack! Jump over the lava pit and either avoid the pterodactyl or eliminate it with a jump spin. Avoid the lava to the left and jump over the log to find three boxes, one of which is a slot box. Break them all and jump over the next lava pit.

Weave between the three pterodactyls and avoid the lava to the right before dropping to a lower level. Here you get another reprieve from the dino hunt.

Break the four boxes and continue to the tar pit. Head right, revealing a checkpoint. Break the Aku Aku box to gain some protection, quickly jump on the three TNT boxes here to trigger them, and head right.

Break four boxes and head through another tar pit. Avoid the lava on the left and jump over a log, landing on the left of the path to avoid the lava pit. Pass the grass and see a submerged enemy approaching. Jump on his head to eliminate the threat, and forge onward.

Red Gem Path

This path requires the Red Gem—found in a later level, Deep Trouble. Spin into the checkpoint box before dropping to the lower level. As you continue, a dinosaur starts chasing you. When you reach the tar pit, avoid the lava on the right. Jump over the grass, and do the same thing to the next patch at the end of the lava pit. Avoid the lava pit on the left, and keep right to claim a small speed boost. Slide and jump across the big pit of lava.

Avoid the pterodactyl on the left, and hit the speed boost to the right. Jump and spin again to get across the next big lava pit. Jump over the grass, avoiding the lava to the right. Continue through the tar pit.

Cross the dry land, jump over the lava pit, and claim the speed boost on the right. Keep to the middle of the path to avoid the lava pits on each side of the path. After making your way past those pits, avoid the steam vent, and either avoid the pterodactyl or spin into it to eliminate it, jumping over the log it rested on.

Drop down the path and catch your breath before spinning into the checkpoint box. As you continue, the chase resumes!

Spin and jump over the pit of lava, but be sure to land on the left side of the path. Jump over the grass you landed in, and do the same for the next patch. Hop over the log to reach the speed boost.

Carefully squeeze between the lava and the steam vent. Once you make your way past those hazards, avoid or eliminate the pterodactyl to the right before jumping over the next big lava pit.

Claim the upcoming speed boost and jump over the nearby grass. Avoid the steam vent in the middle of the path, and get the speed boost behind it. Deal with the nearby pterodactyl, and claim the speed boost directly behind it as well. After the speed boost, jump over the lava, avoid the grass, and deal with the pterodactyl on the left next to a lava pit. Head through the next speed boost and between the two steam vents near the end of it.

You see another pterodactyl on a log to the right, with a long speed boost behind it. At the end of the boost are three steam vents blocking your path. Jump over the dormant one in the middle (which isn’t blowing steam). Keep to the middle of the path to avoid lava pits, jumping when needed to stay over the grass. Grab the Clear Gem and drop down to warp out.

Jump over the next log and take out the enemy swimming in the tar. Break the box here to reveal the checkpoint. Break the two bounce boxes by bouncing between them. Avoid the nitro box before breaking the last nearby box. Pass the lava pits on the left, and be ready to hop over the lava when it covers the entire path, to reach another enemy swimming in the tar. Rid yourself of him with a jump spin. Move ahead and jump onto the “?” platform to reach the bonus stage.

Bonus Stage

Head right and bounce between the bounce boxes to break them. Break the next three boxes and proceed until you see a large stack of boxes. Break the bottom two, which enables you to reach the arrow box. Jump onto it and bounce up to the top of the steel boxes to the right. Break the boxes you can now reach up here before dropping down. You can now break the arrow box, along with any you missed before. Crawl under the steel boxes, break the last two boxes, and jump to the “?” platform to return to the main level.

Jump over the next lava pit in your way and eliminate the swimming enemy. Continue until you reach a “!” box. Jump in to activate it, making some boxes appear on the right. Turn right to collect the crystal in your path before breaking the five boxes here.

As you head back toward the screen, break the three boxes and then drop to the lower level. Here’s that pesky dino again; we wondered where it got off to! As the chase resumes, break the boxes and the checkpoint box here, then run to the tar pit. Avoid the grass to the right so it doesn’t slow you down, and watch out for the pterodactyl on the left. Jump over the next log, avoiding the next pterodactyl as well, and stay off the grass. Jump over the lava and break the box. As you approach the next tar pit, avoid the grass and break the next box.

The next tar pit holds a pterodactyl on the left, with a lava pit behind it. Stay to your right to avoid the beast, and jump over the lava. Carefully avoid the three volatile nitro boxes, and keep left to avoid the lava pit. Cross the grass to keep right, avoiding yet another lava pit.

Break two boxes and hit the green “!” box. The Clear Gem appears if you managed to get all of the boxes. Claim your gem and drop down to warp out.

Time Trial

Time Requirements

Sapphire: 1:45:00

Gold: 1:40:20

Platinum: 1:21:00

As in the regular level, the grass slows you down, so avoid it whenever possible. When you must cross grass, jump as far across as you can, jump-spin when you land, to mow it down to the bare earth, then jump again.

The small number of time boxes in this level makes this time trial challenging. When being chased by the dino, don’t worry about breaking the boxes. When it runs into the time boxes, it activates them for you.

One of the best things you can do here is claim all three Aku Aku Masks. Being invincible means you can run straight through the grass, losing no time.
