While you’ve spent a lot of time on the freeways, this time trial takes you up into the Crescent Mountains. The roads are narrow and winding. Not only do you need speed to win, you also need a lot of control and know when to slow down. This course is nearly four and a half miles long.
Objective: Run the route as fast as you can. Finish within 3:16 minutes to win.
The race begins with five alternating turns. Each is a 180-degree turn that starts off with you in a bend to the right as you rush into a turn to the left. Use the straight sections between turns to pick up speed, then cut to the inside and powerslide around these turns to accelerate as you exit.
After the last turn, race toward an intersection and go right across and into the tunnel. Horsepower helps you make this climb to the top of the mountain. After a section of relatively straight roadway, you have a right angle turn to the right, followed by a wider turn to the left. By maintaining control through the first turn, you enter the second turn in a better position. Don’t be afraid to slow down a bit. You lose more time by losing control.
This next section is a series of turns. There are some longer distances between turns where you can pick up speed. However, that means you need to slow down before entering each one. Finally, you hit an S-curve that bends to the left and then immediately to the right. Try to take these turns on the inside. As you exit the first, head to the inside of the second.
As you race to the top of the mountain where the dam is located, you discover a section with a long, shallow turn. Accelerate through this portion, all the way to the dam. Once you get past the dam, be ready for a couple sharp turns to the left and then to the right. Slow down before you enter them so you can maintain control, then hit the gas as you exit.
As you enter this 180-degree turn to the right, slow down a bit and powerslide around it. Accelerate for a bit and then get ready for a turn to the left. You already bled off speed during the previous turn, so you shouldn’t have to slow down much here. Once you get around the second turn, speed down the straightaway as you head down the mountain.
Near the finish line, you have a right and then left turn combination. Slow down here and powerslide through the turns to preserve your speed as you race through the finish line.
