While you got a taste of mountain racing, Amy has prepared another time trial for you. This time, you’re racing all the way to the dam at the top. It’s a steady climb, so make sure you have some horsepower under the hood.
Objective: Finish the time trial within 3:43 to win.
The first leg of this race is fairly straight. Get up to speed as quickly as you can. There are a couple of turns as you approach the end, so just let off the gas to slow down a bit before entering, then accelerate out of them.
Next, you hit a series of alternating turns, but have some space to speed up between them. Since you’re climbing, just letting off the throttle is usually enough to slow down and still maintain control around them. As you approach the monument, speed and powerslide around it. You then have a right and then left turn combo, so maintain control around them.
This relatively straight section is your speed run for the course. The turns are wide and long, so try to take them with straight lines to limit the steering you must do. This is where the horsepower under your hood shows as you continue racing uphill at high speeds.
At the end of the speed run, you encounter a tricky set of turns. There’s a sharp turn to the right, followed by a hairpin turn to the left. The key is to slow down and take the first turn under control so you are prepared for the second. After three more turns, you have another short straight section for making up time.
Another set of turns here! Slow down for the bend to the right, just before you begin your descent toward the dam. Letting off the gas may not be enough, so tap the brakes to slow down as you hit the next turns—especially the two right before the dam.
At the dam, you must make some sharp turns to get around to the tunnel. Slow down! It’s easy to lose control here with these tight turns, so take your time. Then accelerate as you enter the tunnel and speed all the way to the finish line.
