The first event Robyn calls you about is a drift trial. Since drifting is a major part of crew driving, you need to start with the basics. Robyn is running the trial with you as you drift around the turns on the hilly roads of El Rey.
Objective: Earn 15,000 Drift Score to win the event.
This course has lots of turns, so you have plenty of opportunities to earn some Drift Score. Don’t worry about drifting around the first couple. Just get up speed and stay in control so you can drift around the first turn to the left.
As you exit the turn, straighten up and accelerate until you enter the next one. It bends 180 degrees to the left. The inside of the turn has grass, so try to stay in the middle of the road. If your front wheels hit the grass, it slows you down and makes it harder to get around the entire turn. Pick up speed again so you can hit the sharp turn to the right fast enough to drift all the way around it.
After a short distance for speeding up, you hit a turn to the left, followed by a longer one to the right. Do some drifting around the left turn since you have speed, then try for some more around the right turn.
There are three hairpin turns in a row in the next section of the course. The roads are narrow here—only one lane wide. With guardrails on the inside and concrete walls on the outside, you must drift right in the middle to make it around.
Slow down a bit as you enter the turn so you put weight on your front wheels and turn while your rear wheels slide around. If you hit either the wall or the guardrail before completing the drift, you lose any score you were earning for that turn.
After the last hairpin turn, punch it as you head to the intersections. This is a wide road, so try drifting around to the right at high speed to get some more score. If you need some additional score, drift along sections of the long, wide turn.
The final turn is to the right and takes you to the finish line. Accelerate toward this turn so you can drift around it for as long as you can, then continue to the finish.
