Game of Thrones eGuide Walkthrough Side Quests

Rings and Chains

Elyana Seems To Be In Trouble. You Can Find Out What The Problem Is By Meeting Her In The Courtyard Of Riverspring Castle.

Objective Point A

After your conversation with Elyana in the throne room during the “Legacy” main quest, seek out your sister in the courtyard when you’re ready to embark on this side quest.

Inquire About The Business That Has Set The Roxton Family Against Elyana.

You learn that two years ago, Riverspring had borrowed money from an allied kingdom led by the Roxtons when times were tougher, and when Riverspring couldn’t immediately repay the debt, Lord Roxton demanded Elyana’s hand in marriage.

Question Elyana.

You also discover that Elyana was courting another local, Criston, and even though nothing happened, Lord Roxton found out about it. In a jealous rage, he called off the wedding. He then returned to Riverspring with some men and began seizing property that was “owed” him as part of the debt. Elyana dispatched the city guard and had Lord Roxton locked up in the dungeons.

Question The Younger Roxtons.

Objective Point B

You can also speak with Edwyn and Meredyth Roxton in the courtyard. They are here looking for their missing father, and Meredyth is particularly concerned with the gold the Sarwycks “owe” the family.

Go Into Town To Find Criston.

Objective Point A

To figure out what’s going on, you decide to speak with Criston in town. He can either corroborate Elyana’s story or the Roxton’s; both parties see things in a slightly different way. Talk to the guard to your left as you enter Riverspring and ask for an escort; it’s better to have a few extra guards at your side with the troubles ahead.

Objective Point B

You’ll find two Roxton guards pounding on Criston’s door in the marketplace. Order them to stand aside so that you can resolve the matter with Criston.

As soon as Criston comes out of his house, the Roxton guards attack and try to kill the man. You and your Riverspring guards are forced to kill the Roxton guards before they can murder Criston.

Escort Criston To The Castle Safely.

Objective Point C

Criston seems to confirm Elyana’s story: Nothing too forward happened between them, so Lord Roxton acted rashly and the debt has been repaid honorably in Alester’s eyes. You need to escort Criston back to the courtyard and confront the Roxtons. Criston suggests taking the route to the main gate, rather than the route through the docks (which could hide an ambush). You set off toward the main gate as his protectors.

Objective Point D

As soon as you top the steps from the marketplace, Roxton’s next set of guards attacks. If Criston dies, Elyana will not be happy, so to avoid the wrath of your sister, protect him at all costs. Stun any foe attacking Criston and try to lure the enemies toward you and the Riverspring guards. If you match your weapon type to the appropriate enemy armor, you should easily deliver enough damage to kill them quickly.

Objective Point E

Your next battle occurs on the bridge. Stand in front of Criston at the top of the stairs, and when the enemies charge, hit them with ranged attacks or stuns as they near. They will try to slip past you to get at Criston, which presents great opportunities to strike from behind or deal major damage without retaliation. Cut them down efficiently so they don’t gang up on Criston.

Objective Point F

More enemies guard the main entrance. Deal with the groups as they close on you. Keep your tactics similar to the earlier battle. Your main concern should be Criston: Prioritize any enemy that attacks him and spend your better abilities to get him out of trouble. Enter the castle grounds once all enemies are dead.

Go And Find Elyana.

Speak with Elyana in the courtyard again. She confesses that she used poor Criston as a pawn to make Lord Roxton jealous and call off the wedding. You decide to release Lord Roxton from his cell and then have several choices regarding the debt and Criston’s fate. You can choose to pay the debt, and Lord Roxton drops his claims against Riverspring. If you choose to sacrifice Criston for the Roxtons’ honor, Lord Roxton drops his claims against Riverspring.

You can duel Edwyn Roxton, and if you win, the claims are dropped. You can also let Criston duel Edwyn Roxton, in which case Criston dies but the Roxtons are satisfied and don’t pursue the matter.

If you accept the quest but don’t complete it before leaving Riverspring, the Roxtons will thank you for not interfering and the quest fails. The quest will also fail if you let Criston die while escorting him to the courtyard.
