Castlewood
Open The Book Lady Marianne Sent To Your Bedchamber
Objective Point A
One of the Castlewood servant ladies, Shorei, enters your bedchamber with some news. It’s been weeks since you’ve been able to speak with Lord Harlton, and you’re getting antsy sitting around waiting. Shorei delivers a letter from Marianne Harlton asking you to attend a secret meeting in the cellar.
Objective Point B
Head to the main stairwell and descend to the ground floor. You can either visit Marianne directly or explore Castlewood. You may want to venture outside to the courtyard and check to see what the merchants have to offer.
Marianne Is Waiting For You. Go To The Cellar When You Are Ready.
Objective Point C
Speak with Marianne in the cellar. You converse about Lord Harlton’s plans and the risks involved. She seems to agree with your reservations about Lord Harlton’s single-minded pursuits, but don’t be fooled—she’s fully committed to her uncle and is just gauging how loyal you are to the cause.
Trust Marianne Or Gawen
Before you make a final decision on how you will support the Harltons, a man in a guard’s uniform slips behind Marianne and puts a knife to her throat. He claims to be your brother Gawen, who has just escaped from the Harlton dungeon.
You have a big choice to make now: trust Marianne or trust Gawen. If you trust Marianne, she ultimately betrays you and sets the entire castle guard on you. Depending on your lust for blood, you may want the extra experience from fighting a castle full of guards. The safer, and more honorable, choice is siding with your brother, Gawen. The Harltons have had him locked in their dungeons, and it was Lord Harlton who staged Gawen’s death in the first place. You knock out Marianne and leave her in a large chest, out of sight from prying eyes.
If Marianne has betrayed you, the battle is on, and you’ll have to fight through the guards to eventually reach the dungeons below. If you sided with Gawen, he’s in no shape to travel yet after all that he’s been through in the dungeons. First, you have to find him some healing ointments to ease the pain, and next you’ll have to find a helmet to complete his guard disguise so that he can travel about the castle without arousing suspicion.
Fight Through The Castle Guards Or Find A Way To Heal Gawen And Retrieve A Helm He Can Wear So That He Can Move About The Castle Unnoticed
Objective Point D
Seek out Maester Martin down the hall. If you chat him up about his knowledge on the healing arts, he will give you Ointments; return to Gawen to aid in the healing process.
Objective Point E
Next, travel to the castle’s western section and find the guards talking about their exploits with the castle serving ladies. One brutish guard, Alesander, boasts about his conquest over Shorei last night. Ignore them for now and pick up the helm on the chair next to the fireplace.
Objective Point F
Return to your brother and give him both items; he’ll be ready to travel incognito now. Feeling better, he tells you what has happened to him over the past few months. He learned of your father’s dealings with the Harlton’s secret brotherhood and that Harlton’s master plan was to find a woman named Jeyne Greystone and use her child to bring Targaryens back into power.
Your father wanted no part in forcing an innocent mother and child into the Game of Thrones , so he wrote a letter to Jon Arryn and warned him (thus setting Mors’s story line into motion). In response, Harlton had your father poisoned. Eventually, Harlton captured Gawen and spread the rumors that it was the son who poisoned the father. Gawen was able to escape only because of the heroic actions of another prisoner (Mors), so you both decide to free that prisoner before leaving Castlewood.
Side Quest: The Maggot in the Apple
Before entering the dungeons, you may want to complete “The Maggot in the Apple” side quest to help reduce the threats against you as you escape. Alester remembers that the best of Harlton’s fighters train out in the courtyard; it’s the perfect opportunity to get rid of them without attracting unnecessary attention. Venture outside to the courtyard and wound the men training to soften up the defenses. For more details on the sneak attack and completing the quest, see the “Side Quests” chapter.
Find a way into the dungeons to find the prisoner your brother told you about
Objective Point G
Proceed to the door leading down to the dungeons. You discover that it’s locked, but Gawen knows that Alesander has the key from his many times being tortured. You recall the conversation that just took place with the guards and figure Shorei can help you get the key.
Get The Keys From Alesander
Objective Point H
Speak with Shorei in the dining area. You can convince her to poison the guards, since she serves them their drinks. Go talk to Maester Martin and get him talking about his profession so that he doesn’t suspect anything. At the end of the conversation, Martin will hand you Milk of the Poppy. Bring it back to Shorei and let her take care of the rest.
Shorei serves the poison drinks to the men. They’re all dead by the time you arrive in the guard room where you found the helm for Gawen. Grab the Key to Castlewood Dungeon off Alesander’s corpse and unlock the door to the dungeons.
Objective Point I
The guards in charge of dungeon access have strict orders not to let anyone in. You can’t change their minds. The only way in is through them, so trigger the fight and let them have it. The guard with heavy armor is the most difficult foe; concentrate your blows on the other two, bring them down, and then team up on the final heavy-armor guard.
