Track Down Poddy
Objective Point A
You enter the Gift in search of Poddy. The snow-covered forest is a maze, so you’ll need to rely on your dog’s tracking ability to follow Poddy’s scent trail and navigate the twists and turns.
Objective Point B
A boy paces in front of you as you pass the first bridge. He says his family has a campfire nearby and that he hasn’t seen Poddy. You advise him to return to his family because of the dangers lurking in the forest.
Objective Point C
After speaking with the boy, you come to an intersection. Take the left path, and a short distance later, you’ll see the boy’s family’s campsite. The boy’s father, Ondrew, says that they’ve seen Poddy pass through here. He asks one of the family to guide you to the spot where they spied Poddy.
Objective Point D
Alas, the family isn’t anything more than a band of thieves, and they lead you into an ambush. They ask you to hand over all your valuables; you refuse. No matter what you say, combat ensues.
Three of the thugs wear no armor; two wear medium armor. Target the ones with no armor first. Order your dog to assault one of the thugs wearing medium armor to keep him off your back. Cut through the enemies without armor as quickly as possible to reduce the number of attacks against you; abilities that hit multiple foes are powerful at the start since you’re surrounded.
When they all lie on the ground, the leader Cley will beg for his life. He tells you that their band has hidden two piles of coins. You can ignore his babbling and kill him, or let him talk before putting him out of his misery. If you let him talk, he gives you the side quest “Treasure Hunt.”
Side Quest: Treasure Hunt
Both parts of the “Treasure Hunt” side quest are hidden in the Gift. You might want to set time aside on your main quest to complete this side quest and earn some good coin to upgrade your equipment. The first treasure stash is hidden through some brush, and the second is hidden on the hill with the hollow tree (points marked on the map). Dog must sniff these out, so switch to tracking mode and smell out the blue trails as they lead to each stash. For more details on the treasure stashes, see the “Side Quest” chapter.
Objective Point E
Pick up Poddy’s scent again and follow it to the map’s southeast section. You’ll reach a point where the scent trail goes under a fallen tree. Dog can crawl under this obstacle, but Mors is stuck on the other side. You will have to rely on Dog from now on.
You cannot bring Mors past this point! Dog has to hunt Poddy the remainder of the way alone.
Get Rid Of Poddy
Objective Point F
Sneak through the brush with Dog and creep up on Poddy. You see him attacking a woman, and you have no choice but to attack without Mors. With Dog in assassination mode, go for Poddy’s throat and don’t give up until he lies dead on the ground. The woman escapes, and Mors finally finds a way around the fallen tree to join up with his dog over Poddy’s dead body.
