As a red priest devoted to the god R’hllor, Alester has some magical abilities that have a great impact on the story line and your chances of survival in combat. Once you unlock your R’hllor abilities, you can light targets on fire, generate heat to recover health and energy faster, and even discover secret passages through the guidance of your lord above.
R’hllor Abilities
At the top of Alester’s R’hllor powers is Flaming Weapon, the simplest form of Alester’s fire-based weapon abilities. You must have a flask of flammable oil to set Alester’s weapon on fire with Flaming Weapon; if so, the weapon stays alight for 10 seconds and can set enemies on fire with each attack.
If you branch to the left, Accelerated Combustion increases the burn rate on an opponent who is already on fire. Next, you can choose from two abilities: Ignition (inflicts more damage and quickens the Accelerated Combustion ability) and Explosion (causes an explosion on a burning opponent that also stuns him).
Under Ignition, the potent Wildfire Weapon allows you to set your weapon on fire with wildfire, which inflicts greater damage than normal fire and spreads twice as quickly to nearby targets. Try to unlock Wildfire Weapon at an early level to take advantage of its powerful damage potential.
Under Explosion, Inferno increases the damage from Explosion and spreads it over a larger area. Below Inferno, Vial of Last Resort triggers when you are knocked out and leaves a blast of wildfire behind that affects nearby enemies.
In order to reach R’hllor’s Blade, you must first have Ignition and Explosion. You’ll want this early, too, since it allows you to set your weapon alight without using flammable oil. Now you can use your power at any time and not have to worry about conserving on flammable oil flasks. Under R’hllor’s Blade, R’hllor’s Fire improves the duration of your Flaming Weapon attack.
On the trees right side, Regenerative Heat increases your health and energy recovery times. Continuing down the chain under Regenerative Heat, R’hllor’s Flames increases the length of Regenerative Heat, and Flame of Life allows you to revive a knocked out ally to 30 percent health. If you branch to the right of Flame of Life, Breath of Life revives a knocked out ally to 50 percent health and Rebirth automatically revives Alester to 25 percent health after his first knockout each fight.
If you branch to the right of Regenerative Heat, Incombustible gives you a huge defense against fire damage, cutting the amount of damage you might take from fire in half. Under Incombustible, Dazzling Light blinds nearby enemies; they will have trouble distinguishing allies from opponents.
Secret Passages
R’hllor has blessed Alester with a special sight that allows him to see secret areas. At any time, you can call upon R’hllor’s vision to show you hidden passages and items. After your hands ignite in fire, scan around the area and look for a new item marker (glowing green circle). It might be a hidden item that you’re looking for to complete a puzzle, or it might be a wall sconce that you can pull to open a secret passage. When you run into a dead end where you think there shouldn’t be one, call up on the Vision of R’hllor to show you the way.
