Maegor’s Holdfast Dungeons
Escape From The Red Keep’s Dungeons
Objective Point A
You are stripped of your gear and thrown into a cell in Maegor’s Holdfast, the dungeons of the Red Keep. You have been stuck in the cell for a while and your trial hasn’t come; you’re beginning to think you’re going to be left down here to rot when your first visitor arrives: Varys. He explains that it will be several more weeks before your trial, and Valarr will have wed your sister by then. Your only chance is to escape the dungeon and convince the queen of your resourcefulness. Queen Cersei may be impressed and see a use for a man like you on the Riverspring throne.
Objective Point B
Lord Varys provides a key to your cell for your escape. He can’t guide you out himself—if he were seen, it would be the end of his career as master spy—but he will meet you at the end of the dungeons and give you final instructions before you slip into the Red Keep’s throne room and meet the queen. Follow the corridor outside your cell until you come to the room on your left with a guard asleep at his post (drugged by Varys). Take the guard’s weapons off the table; now you have something at least to use in combat.
As you proceed farther into the room, two guards in light armor enter. They attack on sight, and you’ll have to take both of them down with the guard’s weapons and no armor. You aren’t as tough as you normally are, so rely on stun, knockdown, and immobilize effects to minimize the hits against you.
Objective Point C
After you defeat the two guards, search the room from which they came. You’ll find your personal belongings on the table and the Key to the Red Keep’s Cells. Once you’ve equipped your gear, return to the previous room with the sleeping guard and use your new keys to open the locked door that gives you access to the corridor to the north.
Use The Gift Of Sight Given To You By R’hllor To Locate A Secret Passage
Objective Point D
The corridor appears to be a dead end, but it’s not. In the last cell on the right, use your gift of sight powers to discover a secret passage. Access the new wall opening to reach the darker labyrinth of Maegor’s Holdfast.
Explore The Labyrinth Of Maegor’s Holdfast To Meet Varys
Objective Point E
Eventually you’ll reach a winding staircase. The way is barred if you go up, so descend until you see an opening into the upper basement. Your route begins to twist and turn in the Maegor’s Holdfast corridors as you move up and down between the dungeons, upper basement, and lower basement levels. Go slowly and make sure you always know how to get back to familiar territory.
Objective Point F
Continue to follow the passages until you reach the corridor with two levers. Pull the first on the left wall to open a door in the next corridor. Pull the second lever in the small room to the right at the corridor’s end. This lever opens the locked gate in front of you.
Objective Point G
Two guards are beating a man in the next corridor. Sneak around the corner and surprise them with your best attack before they get a chance to figure out what’s happening. Now that you have your full gear returned, the battle should go smoothly. The man they were beating turns out to one of Varys’s “Little Birds,” his spies who listen to the kingdom’s goings-on and report back to Varys. The Little Bird will guide you to the end of Maegor’s Holdfast.
Objective Point H
Follow the Little Bird until he stops in front of a blank wall. Use your gift of sight to open another secret passage in the wall. It leads to another staircase that winds down to the lower basement.
Objective Point I
Circle down the stairs and continue on. Search for the lever in the northwest section of the maze that opens a new passage into a wine cellar. There’s a large hole in the wall to your left, and you’ll see several guards patrolling the adjacent chamber. If you have a ranged attack, aim at one of the guards to get in some extra damage while you initiate combat. Battle at the opening to prevent the guards from swarming into your room and surrounding you.
Objective Point J
Enter the room the guards were just in. Before you exit, search the book on the stand by the exit stairs for another Codex entry.
Objective Point K
More guards will assail you at the top of the stairs. If you have a ranged weapon, let the Little Bird attack the guards in melee while you pelt them from the safety of the stairs. If you want to punish them with melee, go into slow-motion mode when you top the stairs so you have time to set up your attack before the guards are on you.
Objective Point L
Return to the upper basement and follow the twists and turns until you run into another band of guards. Similar to your other battles with the guards, you can use the corner and stairs as cover if you need a few extra seconds to prepare or want to let the Little Bird get in some extra whacks while you defend.
Objective Point M
The Little Bird takes his leave from your company at the last staircase. He can’t be seen near the Red Keep’s throne room. You’ll have to go it alone until you meet up with Varys.
Objective Point N
Walk up the stairs and open the secret door at the top. It opens into a room with three guards. Stay in the darkness and don’t enter the room, and the guards won’t immediately notice you. If you have a ranged weapon, hit the closest guard with your most damaging attack and retreat back down the stairs. Fighting on the stairs will keep the guards from surrounding you, and you won’t pull the second set of guards in the nearby room into the battle. If you have only melee weapons, charge into the room, hammer the closest guard with your initial attacks, and then retreat to the stairs. After all the guards lie dead at your feet, collect any loot from the corpses and then enter the room.
Objective Point O
More guards are in the adjacent room opposite the stairs. If you battle inside the room, they will charge into the fray near the end of your fight with the first set of guards; if you pull the battle outside the room to the stairs beyond the secret passage, you can finish the first battle and then surprise this second set of guards.
Objective Point P
Once you beat all the guards in the area, Varys opens the door to the Red Keep’s throne room on the southern wall. He explains that this secret passage leads directly to the Throne Room’s antechamber, and he reminds you that his involvement in this little affair must be kept secret.
