The Great Beast
Prerequisite: Complete The Tall Elk
Main Objective: Join Jayma’s hunters to take down a mighty Mammoth
Difficulty: Hard
Awards: 1,000 XP
Enemies: Mammoth
Overview
Visit Jayma in front of her hut to learn of a hunt that is already underway. Head out to Jayma’s quest marker to the southeast, find the tree stump used for target practice, and accept the mission. Find the hunting path to the west at Nasan Run Valley and talk to the lead hunter to get things started. Call your strongest beast, but make it stay with the hunters for now. Since the Bear is strong and draws the enemies’ attention, it is a good choice. Also, set a strong heal as the default before moving out.
Strategy
Find the Mammoth not too far away to the east, near the small body of water. Stay a safe distance away and get its attention with an arrow. If it moves in, quickly turn around and run back toward the hunters. Don’t get too far away though, or the Mammoth loses interest. If you notice it heading back or see the message to lure the Mammoth, get its attention again. When you reach Nasan Run Valley with the target, the hunting party launches their attack.
Use up your spears on the Mammoth while keeping your companion busy attacking. Climb onto the south or east platform and attack from there, though it may be necessary to get back into the action if you run out of projectiles or your beast is knocked out. Try to keep the center rocks in between you and the target. If you find yourself in line with her charge attack, jump out of the way to limit the damage. Finally, she collapses.
