The safest, fastest and easiest way to complete this mission is simply riding a Mammoth in from the west and trampling all of the Wolves in the area. But assuming you do not have the Mammoth Rider skill here’s how to do it on foot.
After accepting the mission, head east into the hunting area. Use your Owl to scout out the Wolves’ locations. You quickly notice that they have the path surrounded. Stay to the north side of the path and use your Hunter Vision to locate the Wolves hiding in the brush. Take your time to aim for the head. You want to deal as much damage as possible so that they do not have time to “howl in” reinforcements.
There are six Wolves in the bushes before the Wooly Rhino. Make sure you kill them all before moving on past the Rhino. If they begin to surround you, light your arrow or club to scare them off.
Lighting the bushes on fire here may spook the Wooly Rhino, who is a much bigger problem to deal with than a few Wolves.
Give the Rhino plenty of distance as you move by, heading diagonally back down the south side of the hunting site. This will hopefully mean that you will face the Rare Wolf last, allowing you to tame it or kill it much easier.
Use your arrows to kill off the three remaining Wolves from the high rocks to the south. If they catch on to you, again use fire to scare them off and spread them out. Eliminate them one by one and then have your spears or bait ready to kill or tame the Rare Wolf.
