Items each serve a specific purpose. Most Items permanently stay in your possession after you’ve obtained them, but a few are limited to the Scenarios they are found in, or have limited uses during a battle. Here is a list of all eight Items and how to obtain them.
Bombs
Bombs are used to destroy boulders, cracked walls, and Beamos statues, and are the item used to reveal King Dodongo’s Weak Point Smash. Picking up the Bombs power-up will transform the Bombs into one gigantic Bomb, which is excellent for clearing Keeps and large groups of enemies. This Item can be found in Scenario 1 of Legend Mode.
Bow
The Bow is used to defeat Deku Babas and is also the weakness of the Gohma. If you shoot an enemy with this Item, it will stun them momentarily. Picking up the power-up for the Bow will make it fire Light Arrows, which stun enemies for a longer time and split into multiple arrows to hit more enemies. You can find the Bow in Scenario 3 of Legend Mode.
Boomerang
The Boomerang is used to cut down Walls of Vines and is the item used to reveal the Manhandla’s Weak Point Mark. It can also dizzy enemies, stunning them for even longer than the Bow. When you grab the Boomerang power-up, it temporarily turns the Boomerang into the Gale Boomerang, which creates small tornadoes on the field when you throw it. This Item can be found in Scenario 4 of Legend Mode.
Ocarina
Found inside the Deku Tree during the Legend Mode Scenario, “The Sorceress of the Woods,” the Ocarina lets you warp your Warriors to special owl statues that appear on certain battlefields. Warping with the Ocarina helps you outmaneuver your enemies—a handy tactic for frantic battles. Simply use the Ocarina, and then choose an owl statue to warp to. Note that you can only warp to owl statues that have been activated. Some owl statues are activated from the start of a Scenario; others must be activated manually during the course of the Scenario by moving close to the owl statue and pressing the Regular Attack button.
Hookshot
The Hookshot is used to pull you to new heights on Scenarios with strange-looking plaques, which almost exclusively contain Gold Skulltulas. It is also the item needed to reveal the Argorok’s Weak Point gauge. You can find the Hookshot in Scenario 6, Palace of Twilight.
Potion
The Potion is used to heal ten of your current Warrior’s Hearts during a battle. You can purchase Badges from the Badge Market to increase the number of times you can use this Item and how much it heals you Warrior. This item is obtained during the tutorial at the beginning of the game.
Fairies
Fairies are used to dispel Barriers in Adventure Mode Scenarios. Barriers have one of several different elements and entering a Barrier before dispelling it means constant damage for your Warrior as long as you are standing inside it. To dispel a Barrier, you need a Fairy of the same element. Fairies are found only in Adventure Mode, as are Barriers.
Hammer
Acquired in Legend Mode at the start of the first Wind Waker Scenario, “A New Disturbance,” the Hammer is a mighty item that helps you solve all sorts of puzzles. Its primary purpose is to pound down big switches—use the Hammer on switches to cause important changes in the environment. Hammering a switch can open doors, reveal secrets, and so on. The Hammer also has its uses in battle; swing it to slam the ground, stunning nearby foes and making them vulnerable. Find a Hammer Power-Up and the Hammer grows to giant proportions. Slam it down to create a giant shockwave that knocks down all nearby enemies.
